How did you do this as I can't work it out..... Fantastic shot, and one of my all time greatest shots I have seen at DPC. Especially the stopped action motion. I do hope the fish is ok, and that it lived to se another day..... Please let me know how you did this Jorge, as I am quite perplexed about it.....

Congratulations you "snagged" some big votes.
I used to have some nice, big goldfish, I might try your technique.
That's an awful big splash for a small fish, I'd like to see a series with different colored and sizes of fish. Don't be selfish, maybe you can sell-fish framed prints.

That reminds me of a trip I was on in Budapest, Hungary in 2002.
In a supermarket a large, live fish jumped out of a tank onto the floor.
An employee shouted "suicidal fish", and quickly put it back in the tank. I didn't have a camera at that moment.

Anyway, it's a cool shot. Congrats on the ribbon!

Congrats! That is a lot of favs you got there and I can see why. Water splashes plus live creatures used as props do quite well I've noticed. :P

I assume that fish didn't jump out but was tossed up by you or hung on a line?

Great job with the whole set, lighting, composition, etc. Remembering seeing a similar shot once before and like this one a lot more. Very well done. The fish may be a printout? if so you've made it look very real and the whole splash is awesome. 10

Real clever shot and I have no idea how you did it, other than making the poor fishy jump! Good stopped motion and composition. White background is effective.

08/11/2006 12:15:00 PM
Nico, is that you? You know, the Light On White II challenge? If not nico take it as a compliment. ;^)

This should make the front page. Fun, clever, meets the challenge, clean, etc... There might be a slight blur to the water coming out of the bowl, but it's very slight. On my monitor I'm also seeing where there was some levels/curves applied maybe to blend the background? Could be this crappy monitor... Anyway, congrats on a well conceived idea, and execution thereof, for this challenge.

My 12 year old is standing here and his reaction was "how did they get that fish to do that?"

My reaction too! Nice work on baffling everyone at that Havens house!

Love this. My monitor shows a little line around the right side of the bowl where you missed dodging - hope you left comments on how you did this. Would love to try it myself one of these years.

08/09/2006 09:25:48 PM
I love the humor in this shot. The plain white background really brings out the color of the fish, and the blue stones give a nice soft bluish reflection in the water, which is very subtle, but still noticable. The splash and movement of the water is near genius. Can't wait to see your comments once you get a ribbon on this one so I can learn how you did it! Gave ya a 10. "Great Job" from the "Great Job Baggie"!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you've used a photograph of a goldfish rather than the real thing - someone else did something similar a while back. If so, I hope you took the photograph of the goldfish yourself, or asked permission to use it, otherwise it's bordering on an abuse of someone else's copyrighted material. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and a 9 for the terrific execution of this image.

08/07/2006 06:49:02 PM
I very much hope that this is a fake fish and if it's not I sincerely hope that this fish wasn't injured doing this. Even if you did go through the trouble of making sure he was ok when shooting this take after take. I think it's very irresponsible to post something like this here, because you know that the lack or originality and creativity of many of the members will lead them to do similar shots where the subject may not be as lucky. Nice photo, but poor ethical decision. I would like to see future challenge rules implemented where shots like this that involve the "torture" of living subjects be immedetly DQ'd
