Thanks to everyone for the comments and support. I hope that no one finds the fact that the ice cream is not actually in motion disingenuous. Anyone who has worked with a three year old knows that stop motion is always necessary. Anyway, the ice cream is Crisco and corn syrup smeared on Styrofoam balls suspended on fishing line. They were actually swinging back and forth laterally because it was hard to keep them still. The biggest problem was the depth of field i.e. getting the girl and the strawberry ice cream in focus. Unfortunately I don’t have fancy studio strobes yet, so I had a hard time getting enough light for the corresponding small aperture that would have allowed me to get the whole picture in focus. If I was doing this for another application, I probably would have shot the ice cream and girl separately and put them together in photoshop. I also blew out a lot of the highlights on the strawberry and vanilla ice cream and did a sloppy job trying to fix it. Many of you commented on some of the dark areas around those flavors. I have to say DPCers are really good and seldom let anything slip by. I am really amazed at the quality of work across this sight. If you look back at the stuff that was being submitted 3 or 4 years ago, it is obvious that the quantity of quality work has just gotten better and better. It is a testament to everyone’s hard work and the power of the internet to bring people from around the world together. Thanks for the yellow ribbon!

Congrats on your ribbon - well-deserved. My favorite aspect of this is the way she appears to be doing ice-cream martial arts - they should incorporate this move into the next Matrix flick ;-)

I'm going to assume those 36 people that voted this a 10 never deduct any points for DNMC. However, I can see why people would like this as it's very professional. Congrats on your ribbon.

Edited for spelling.

Charming capture. All the editing is spot on except the strawberry and vanilla scoops have darkened edges (from the burning tool perhaps?), the chocolate scoop looks great though.

The ice cream doesn't seem natural to me. I would not expect perfect scoops if it had been dropped from a cone. Also, none of the flavors have mixed where they they should have been touching. This just leaves me with a feeling that this is a little TOO staged.

im interested to know how you did this, i can tell she isnt actually throwing the ice cream (the strawberry is too flat, and the lighting seems a little off... wouldnt there be some shadows?) however great attempt.. 7

What a fun pic! The first one that I viewed in this challenge, picking it out of the thumbnails to come in here and give you it's praise. Nothing NOT to like about this one, everything about it is great, including the sense of humor! "Great Job" from the "Great Job Baggie"!

Very clever. I hope there's not some major trickery going on here or I'll be disappointed. ;^) However you did it, it works. Fun to look at. Motion is certainly stopped. Overall very clear and sharp (pink ice cream is on the edge). Good luck in the challenge.

Great take on the challenge! I hope you post details for this shot. But I'm going to guess you either used cake frosting or colored Crisco for your icecream. 10

I am not sure if this is legal...it looks to me like you copied the ice cream in...I might be wrong...I would suggest you get your shot validated as soon as possible because you may have people vote you down with this in mind...now, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and pretend like you obeyed the rules...a super shot, a gorgeous model, an excellent comp, lighting is great, love the pose 9
