Challenge: Fire II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D70
Lens: Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D
Location: my garage
Date: Aug 8, 2006
Aperture: f/13
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60

Date Uploaded: Aug 9, 2006

Yes it is a cliché but in my defense : I could not find any examples on the web that I actually liked.
I was planning on making a picture of a real burning pepper but after some unsuccesfull experiments in the garage I went for another approach.
This is a double exposure. First I shot the pepper and then I shot the flames.

Edits : cloned out minor distracting element, adjusted levels, resized, usm, added border and saved for web.

Post-challenge
--------------
Wow, I really can't believe it did as well as this. This is actually one of the vey first shots out of my new Nikon D200. To be precise, its number 13.

Upon reflection I might have adjusted the white balance of the pepper shot to more closely match the flame color temperature for a more natural result.

Great composition, great fire, great colors. I like the idea and the lighting looks to be just right. There seems to be a bit of harshness in some areas with the lighting but overall its fine. The focus is good, though seems soft on the ends of the pepper, possibly because of the lighting? Not sure. Nice entry. I gave a 7

Border makes me feel as though the flames are being unnaturally cut off at the top and left. Otherwise, I like the shot - especially how the pepper seems to go through the fire.

Quite impressive. It has a commercial feel to it. Well done. (Maybe the reflection should be a little less white on the pepper.)

Well there are a lot of similar shots in this challenge. However this is very well executed. Perhaps I'd like to see some of the highlights toned down a touch. 7.

nice focus on the pepper, but it doesn't look like it's actually on fire. It looks rather disembodied. There's a small flare along the top edge I would clone out. Despite the criticisms I've mentioned, I think this is a fairly solid shot and it should do well in this challenge.
