Yup the bug is dead. I had caught this fly during the week of the Insect challenge, in case I couldn't find another subject. Held the coin in place with a pair of plyers.

Decided to go with two macro cliche subjects (coin and bug) to see how high I could score, even with bug bashers, lol.

Shot on a tripod with mirror lock up and cable release. Simga 105mm F2.8 Macro lens.

Had to play with Levels because the image was a bit dark. Used Neat Image to smooth things over a bit; and to give that surreal look.

I know I won't ribbon, but my goal is to be in the top 3 of bugs.

Now this is one superb macro shot. Very unexpected and so very close and sharp! I had given you a 10, probably the only one I've given here yet. I don't regret a thing.

Nice capture! The detail in both coin and bug is superb. I rate this a nine for well-executed originality!

The coin adds a nice contrast as well as giving an idea of the bug's size. Great focus and lighting. I think it needs just a little more space at the top.

Amazing level of detail, great lighting. I like the blue reflections off the body of the fly. Is he dead? Good use of a prop to show the scale of what we're seeing. Great background. Very professional. 10

My guess is that he's either dead or fake.. the pose isn't quite right. Nice setup though.

Great capture. Lighting is spot on bringing out the details in both the coin and fly. The light and texture shown in the wing is amazing. 10 all the way

This is a great macro. Lighting, sharpness, and colors are quite good. I know the fly was placed, but it does look quite natural and doesn't change my vote. Great shot.

wing tears and general 'drappyness' show that its a dead bug on a coin - but still a very sharp shot and good detail. Seems quite noisy though.

I think this is a real cool shot. I think that your composition is just showing the fly. Something a little lower may have been cool too. 9

Wow! This is amazingly close! The hairs on the back of the bug are disturbingly gross! Great shot. Excellent control of reflections on the fly; I've taken bug macros before and their highly-reflective body/eyes make them a pain to shoot! Awesome job!

Superfly! Hmmm... this looks awful familiar. I love this shot because it's not head on like most of the other insect macros we often see. Furthermore, the depth of field is very good, letting us see much of the fly's body in focus. You can even see the fly's small secondary pair of wings. A definite 10 and in my book the challenge winner.

I can't wait to find out what equiptment you use. The little hairs on the back of my neck are sticking out about that high, too! I love the gold on the coin & how it glistens & throws my eye right up to the fly. Awesome!
