Challenge: Magic & Mystery (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED
Location: outside
Date: Aug 20, 2006
Aperture: 11
ISO: 100
Shutter: 2
Galleries: Studio
Date Uploaded: Aug 20, 2006

This shot is a triple exposure. (3 seperate exposures combined within the camera (D200))

1) Carina was spinning the pois (firedancing chains) while i zoomed the camera during a 2 second exposure. This was done in the dark, outside.
[F11 ; 2 sec ; ISO 100]

2) Right hand was exposed indoors, on a black velvelt background with one flash exposing the inside of the hand. [F16 ; 1/250 sec ; ISO 100]

3) Same for the Left hand. [F16 ; 1/250 sec ; ISO 100]

The hands had to be done in two shots to make it look like the light was coming from inside... otherwise the back of the hand would get illuminated. Props to Carina for the perfect alignment of the hands with the flames.

Beatiful shot and very well executed. Nice to see three conceptually totally different shots ribbon in this challenge. Congratulations!

awesome aleks...great ribbon winner, clever, well executed and a great result

Congrats! This was one of my highest-rated photos.

Please correct the exposure info, though. Or did you really get three exposures on one frame within 2 seconds? I ask because that kind of info really helps those of us trying to learn how to get multiple exposures.
Thanks!

Congratulations on your yellow ribbon with this truly magical image.
08/28/2006 04:17:28 AM
This is magic - great work. Congratulations!
08/28/2006 03:36:32 AM
This is a fantastic piece of work, congrats. I'm not sure I follow though, do you mean this is a composite of three separate images, layered in post? Or is this one shot, in camera?
08/28/2006 03:30:29 AM
Congrats on the ribbon mate, I didnĀ“t vote but I noticed this in the thumbnails and figured it would give me strong competition and I am not surprised to see it here, well deserved.
08/28/2006 03:29:10 AM
I'm glad another good multiple exposure can ribbon here, well done!
08/28/2006 01:44:54 AM

My favorite inage in this challenge because the image evolves right before your eyes as more detail becomes available. Indeed a great study. Congratulations on your Yellow!
08/28/2006 12:37:52 AM

This type of challenge is DEFINITELY up your alley! Somehow I didn't see this one going through the entries, but I would've known instantly it was yours (and voted somewhere above a 9). Congrats!

Yeah this was awesome, way to go.

one of the most visually simple yet dramatic photos in this challenge - I hope this is top ten.
08/27/2006 09:06:47 PM
This is fun! I like the expert handling of light here, as well as the groovy flames!
08/27/2006 06:47:02 PM
Very impressive...I look forward to reading how it was done!
08/27/2006 03:53:52 PM
Nice. I hope you tell how you did this. Very nicely done.
08/26/2006 08:27:07 PM
great use of fire! a 10 for sure!!
08/26/2006 02:46:46 PM
Wonderfully executed illusion! Definitely one of my favorites in the challenge. The only thing that I would want to change is the title. Since it appears to be a spell being cast, I think "Pyromancy" may be more apt. But the image is outstanding. Well done.
08/26/2006 08:28:51 AM
labuuuda, i can recognize those hands. hehe
08/26/2006 03:38:42 AM

08/25/2006 01:43:42 PM
Wow! Nice shot!! The fire is perfect - just the right amount of light on the hand!
Excellent - 10

Wowsers - that's pretty impressive.

Great shot!
08/24/2006 12:20:05 AM
It's hard to say but I imagine this could be one of the ribbons. If it doesn't ribbon it might be because the lighting on the hands are a bit too dark. Really good shot and meets the challenge. Excellent job!
08/23/2006 10:38:52 PM
I started out with a 6 for this, but I'm upping it to an 8. It really captures the challenge topic perfectly, and it's a great image on top of that. I look forward to reading how you did it. I like how the hands are lit enough to know what they are without dominating the picture, and how the fingers curl to lead my eye back to the flame spiral. Very nice!
08/23/2006 04:15:23 PM
Most excellent. Very good double exposure as I'm guessing you made it even more difficult with having to adjust your lens' focal length. This should be right up there. 9 for now. Could bump you at the end. I expect this one to ribbon (although not to blue...I know which one will do that)
08/23/2006 10:45:15 AM
It requires a second look to settle the illusion and then we are left numb in appreciation. 8 on my first pass.
08/22/2006 10:13:48 PM
Wow, great shot. Love the lighting. Perfect composition.
08/22/2006 04:17:27 PM
8: great work with the fire
08/22/2006 02:52:03 PM

Very cool effect. Can't wait to see more details after the challenge. It has a very mystical feel to it. Nicely done.
08/21/2006 09:25:49 PM
Very well done...
08/21/2006 04:41:06 PM
nice aleks ! i am really curious how you did this, probably some magical double exposure business..?
08/21/2006 01:31:10 PM
Well done! Virtually perfect symetry. Looks like it may have taken a few shots to get this one.
08/21/2006 12:38:34 PM
Very interesting and well-done. Excellent lighting too. The thumbnail looks like a golden rose.
08/21/2006 03:49:15 AM
perfectly executed...this is great for the challenge, and I hope it does well for you
08/21/2006 12:54:38 AM
