Location: Paint shop

This is my first entry with the 5D. Bout time I got an SLR. :-)

My brother wouldn't be the model so I did. I don't blame him. :-D

Fake blood, red paint, black paint, blue paint, fake skin and water. Also put some stuff on my teeth, but it rubbed off on the front ones in this take it seems.

I am sitting on a crate so I am higher than the camera. The scene in the film is lit with flourescent lights so I did the same, one ring-bulb from above-right and a home made tin foil reflector bottom right.

The reason I chose to do Saw is because it is one of my favourite movies. It's not only a good horror film, but has a very good moral that makes your mind work.

Converted from RAW, curves, selective color, hue/sat, sharpen and resize.

.....This is my first entry with the 5D. Bout time I got an SLR. :-)

The above was posted by Joey in Aug of 2006. Less than 2 years later he was shooting the poster for a major movie using a Hasselblad. I am happy I got his autographed photoshop DVD when he was charging only $25 or so for it :-)

5d, 4D 1D...2 megapixel k-mart camera....I don't think it would have mattered what you used for this shot. Lighting, set-up and post processing was the key.

How you get the color/dodge/burn effect on the jeans, rag and dirt on shirt and feet in basic editing is beyond my knowledge of editing in Photoshop.

Good Job.

Congrats on the blue...

So I guess I should see "Saw" then? If it's got some moral and mental aspects. I don't find pure "horror/gore" to be that interesting. Much prefer the mental thrillers (I tend to enjoy Night M. Shaylaman's films).

if the dorks never gave this 1's & 2's it may have been one of the highest scoring images on dpc. it should be, basic edit and all.

(anyone who dishes out a 1 should have their name highlighted against the vote, imo)

this is pure passion here. right down to the discoloured leg that you're gonna chop off. this has got little to do with your new camera and much to do with your creativity. congrats... nice to see you winning ribbons again.

I didn't recognize you. I wondered if this would be too much for DPC; I see that it was not. I was hoping to see this on the front page, and it's a testamant to the open-mindedness of the voting crowd that it made it here, with a blue nonetheless. This is an amazing piece of work. Sincere congratulations.

LOL. I wondered about if the gross factor would prevent it from winning but I guess not. Now I will have to bookmark another page for a week. Come to think of it that's not so bad since Joey will have to see it on his front page for quite a bit longer. :P

ETA: Btw, congrats Joey.

I never saw (get it, saw?) the movie, but I did see previews, and I think you have really captured it here. The flat lighting and the muted colors really make the shot.

Dang, good effects. At least I hope that is effects and you didn't make some cut their leg off for a dpc picture . . .

Joey? Fantastic, cruel shot! So much pain and drama in here. The blood looks so realistic I wonder if the leg was really hurt. This one will ribbon! Don't know if it's blue because many folks here don't like controversial shots but I'll keep my fingers crossed! 10

nice shot. a bit gory. love the blood splatter on the saw bar. that foot needs cutting off, it looks.
nice processing, and shows how much can be done through basic. must be shot with some sort of high-end cam, like a pricey canon or something.
