My wife commissioned me to make a series of prints for our recently redecorated kitchen. This is one of them.
I'm totally inspired by those simple yet effective food shots in the supermarket.

Lighting is provided by a north facing window, two white reflectors and a remote flash bounced from the ceiling.
The camera was mounted on a tripod and I used the mirror-up function before exposure.

Edits : levels, curves, sharpen, crop, resize, border, save for web.

Hope you like...

It was my intention to use a shallow depth of field.
I have the same shot taken at f/22 and even at f/30 but those just don't work as well as this one.

There is something about green apples with mist on them that I find quite attractive.

A nice, crisp close-up still life. The apples are 'tastefully' (pardon the pun) presented because with the rich green apple hue and the waterdrops adorning them they do look very inviting. The visual gives us a papable 'taste' of the clean, crisp taste of these apples. I like the arrangement of the apples for you never see them as a whole. This choice of presentation makes us appreciation and enjoy the curves of these apples. Lighting and detail are wonderful. The square crop is a nice touch because it not only helps keep a tight focus on the main subjects BUT the square shape is a nice juxaposition to the curves and 'roundness' of the apples.

Would have liked to see a wider DOF as the first thing my eyes go to is the apple in the background. I also say this because what you do have sharp is looks really good. Perhaps if the sharper apple took up more real estate this DOF would work better.
