...My Grandfather
Claude Darrell Jones
8/4/1923 - 8/8/2006

"Claude D. Jones died on August 8, 2006 at the age of 83 following a long battle with renal failure and cancer. Born in Dexter, Kansas, he enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and honorably served his country for 20 years including combat duty in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Claude was a Radar Technician on the USS Natoma Bay, the most decorated ship in WWII, during the battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1961 and was a 57 year resident of San Diego. Following his retirement from the Navy, he was the proprieter of the Atlantic Richfield service station. Later he owned several businesses and built spec homes for 15 years.

Claude is survived by his wife Rosemary and children William, Joy, Darrell and Claudia, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren."

This is a candid photo of my niece, taken on the day of his memorial service. All of his great-grandchildren dressed in sailor outfits in his honor.

He will be deeply, deeply missed.

Had to come back to get the rest of the story. Very glad I did.

This is a powerful image, and a wonderful story and tribute to your grandfather. Thanks for sharing. ;^)

you have a tombstone where the woman is not given a last name and is declared simply "his wife." you have a girl dressed up in an outfit that represents a typically male role, and the girl doesn't show her face. All in all, you seem to be making quite the feminist statement. Are you aware of that?

This is a wonderful image. Great tone, exposure, and composition. There's a story being told here, but I'm not sure what it is - wish I knew. On the positive side it's made me think about it, which means your image is doing it's job of holding this viewers interest. ;^)

I get the impression that the girl is a granddaughter perhaps? Be my luck it's a model and no real story at all...

Well done. Good luck in the challenge.

Gorgeous, emotive shot. Good use of third lines. Just FYI, some outlines are a little jittery (especially on her outfit), as if the image compression was not the best.
