That is not easy to find a single tree at this size in a open area here in Iceland, but I knew of this place (Sandfell in Skaftafellssýsla) and I drove about 800 km to get this shot.(crazy...)
The man who is walking to the tree with the rope on his shoulder is my self.

Great light and of course subject. Your choice of muted tone also adds plenty of gravitas. (You should have scored better!)

Aw give me a break! I was thinking of the same friggin tree for this challenge but didn´t bother with the driving, just didn´t have time... Damn DPC and their week submission time, I would have gotten a yellow ribbon if only I had the time, hehe :)

Just kidding! But seriously, just ask Steinar and Andri, my fellow WPL teammates, I was seriously thinking about driving out to this specific tree, I remember the shot Sigurgeir took of it in the "Lost in Iceland" book, awesome!

Congrats on the ribbon :)

I´d walk a mile for a Camel, they said. You drove some 600 miles for a single tree. Wow! But it was worth it, I´m sure. Congrats!

I really like the light on the tree in contrast to the dark forboding sky behind it. The person just adds that little extra.

This makes me think of TUBORG's work. I like the slight desaturation of it. Beautiful with the hillside rising up behind the tree. Great vista with that added appeal of the human form.

This is a really cool shot. I appreciate that you took the time not only to find a wonderful location, but to set up a subject as well. The composition is great and the subject is clear. The post work on the color is also nice, but the vinetting is a little obvious and overwhelming. While I do like the effect and agree that it's appropriate for the image, it's a bit apparent where it starts and stops and feels like a layer just hovering over the photo rather than an active part of the photo itself. You may want to look into different ways of achieving that look, or perhaps just lower the intensity somewhat. That being said, the picture is very nice overall and I think you'll do well in the competition.

Cool tree. Not sure what the person is doing there? Looks like a lovely place to visit. Did you adjust some color hues in this? The sky looks unnatural, like grey instead of blue. Good luck in the challenge.
