Challenge: Abstract Macro II (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Challenges
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon
Location: Chatham, MA
Date: Sep 19, 2006
Aperture: f/16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/15
Galleries: Macro, High Dynamic Range (HDR)
Date Uploaded: Sep 19, 2006

From RAW, tone mapped in photomatix from a single exposure as follows:

RAW image exported to PM7 as a tiff. Processed in PM7 with gothic glow, hue/sat, and some local dodge and burn, all after cropping. Saved as a 16-bit tiff.

The tiff was opened with photomatix and an HDRI image was generated from that single tiff and tone mapped. The TM image was saved as 8-bit tiff, and exported back to PS7.

Hue sat was used to desaturate the reds slightly, local dodging in the shadows of the legs, resize, sharpen aggressively, save for web.

This is only a 50% quality jpg :-(

I imagine I'll get hammered for this not being "abstract enough", though to my eye it's the essence of what abstraction is about, focusing on on shapes and colors.

Wow just stumbled upon this image, very nice, natural looking. Love the colors

The tone map effect works well on this one, it kind of adds to the 'busy' theme. I bet it has a lot more pop in the full quality version, the file size limits are a shame for detailed shots.

This is so unusual and the colours are lovely and vibrant. I think the seaweed may be a bit distracting and can't help wondering how this would have looked without it. A well seen and captured image for this challenge.

Those horseshoe crabs are quite interesting animals. Sad to see it dead... I just wish your shot was "more macro". This is not very abstract because you instantly know what the image shows. Anyway: great find, well done!

The colours in this are amazing! It is unbelievable how you took something ugly and made it a beautiful work of art.

Not at all macro. But it is a wonderful image. The primeval horseshoe crab is a great subject and the colours are great. Rather than give some low grade for not being macro, I will simply leave a comment and not vote. But it is nice work.

Love the rich colors here really pretty and I like the composition too. When I was a kid we played with horseshoe crabs on the beach. Thanks for the memory.
