We didn't have any rain this week, but I wasn't about to let a little detail like that stop me from entering.

This was a PAIN IN THE NECK. I tried the same concept last year, but at least this version turned out better. I went back after this and tried a slower shutter speed on the water (and I wanted to show her feet, too), but my lighting just wasn't as good). The water was pretty darn cold, and I couldn't really take the time to get it right for obvious reasons (that expression wasn't acting).

The setup was simple: my wife is on the ground shooting a garden hose up into the umbrella from behind. I shot this in a neighbor's sheep pasture (please watch your step) with a brolly box on the right side to light my daughter, and a monolight with an umbrella at back left to light up the water. A circular polarizer helped keep the sky dark. Maybe too dark. :-/

Not much editing here... cropped, Channel Mixer, USM, HSL and Levels.

very creative. However, the top half of the photo depicts no rain...I see you imporvised but perhaps if you would of gotten some top spray it would appear that it was raining...nice creativity , congrats on another winner.

Great shot. I wonder why 21 people (6%) voted this 4 or below? Would be good if the top 5% and bottom 5% were discarded when working out averages. Anyway congratulations on the 2nd place.

Edit
I worked out average scores removing the top and bottom 5% and then 10% and the score only rose by less than 0.1 in both cases so I guess the low scorers are balanced out by the high scorers!

That is an AMAZING shot I love the two light sources, that's a professional setup and it shows good planning and execution. It really bugs me that it's centred. Not because that's a "rule" but because it's composition is "off" a little, there is more impact available there which is the only reason it gets a 9 instead of 10

Great way to capture the rain! I love how her dress stands out against all the black and grey! She should be inside having fun and it looks like that is where she would rathter be!!! Crisp and sharp, Awesome job... 10!

Fantastic idea! I was thinking something similar but never got around to trying it. I like that you use a younger subject, I think it works quite well for the playful mood. I question your choice of background, though your excellent lighting keeps the focus on your main subject. Nice job! 8o)

Very nice! I almost moved on thinking "average" until I looked twice and noticed the rain from under the umbrella - what a great idea! it's a shame that the right-hand side seems to be unbalanced with regard to the amount of water shown

Haha. That's great! Her clothing is very bright compared to the dark background and that doesn't help to convey the emotion of frustration or depression one would be feeling in her situation. I still like it.
