I had this idea for several days. I had my husband bum a cigarette off of somebody at work. I just sat at the kitchen table and voila. I tried to make the smoke visible but couldn't seem to. This may be my all time favorite entry. Sorry if you guys are sick of looking at me. I'm a model who's always available. ;~p

Even though I've only been a member for about a year, I came across this image in a thread soon after my arrival at DPC. Knew then that this was a special place and that you were a special photographer. I love this!

Looking at this I was surprised to see that I never commented on this brilliant shot! Not much I can say that hasn't already been said. I think for me I love that the b&w conversion is done so well and the diffused light coming thru the curtain is great!

A flawlessly executed b/w shot. It really appeals to me because it seems to tell a story. Having the smoke would have been a nice touch, but not really needed. I just think the exposure and b/w tones are excellent.

12/25/2006 07:35:23 PM
excellent shot. i would have been tempted to shoot it from a slightly lower perspective, and maybe with a slightly different pose. i get it from the standpoint of making sure that the viewer needs to be able to see that the subject is reading the classifieds, but the positioning seems a little awkward. love the processing, and the idea is killer. congrats on an excellent finish!!

btw, where's the ashtray ;-)

This an awesome photograph. It tells the truth about such a large portion of our society, actually, the story of one and all at some times although we may never want to admit it.

I love the skew doorframe, the use of contrast, the black and white. A well deserved top 5 placing.

What a great shot! The look on here face, the nighdress, the curlers, the way she smokes her cigarette, her bored look into the newspaper for jobs and finally the outstanding ironic title: I love how you took care of all those details! A very well forethought shot. Lighting, contrast, compositon are excellent! I would had a guilty conscience if I would not give you a 10. Great work!

OMG that is just too funny, true but funny - good job portraying mornings perfectly. Perfect job with the black and white and border looks like something out of the 50's-60's.

Magnificent. best in show. you've captured that 1950s nostalgia perfectly, right down to the square crop with the big border...I feel like i'm going through my dad's old photo boxes.

This is what I would expect to see if Normal Rockwell got some inspiration from Larry the cable guy and Jeff Foxworthy. This photo tells a great story :) The look on her face, especially with the cigarette hanging off her lip, tells me she's just pissed off and ready to tell the world to go to hell :)

I like the square crop. It might even add to the 'americana' theme a little if you created a thicker border area at the bottom to make this look like a polaroid instant print :)

Great stuff... top score from me :)

You know, I didn't enter this challenge but the idea that I had was very similar to this. You did a great job of portraying the idea of "Don't F*** with me till I've had my cigarette and coffee". The black and white was perfect. This would not have worked in color. Kind of reminds you of June Cleaver doesn't it? Ward sure is a lucky guy! 8
