Love the crane in the background. Nice contrast of humans and nature. Harbor could symbolise the transition between the two. Nice use of fog, great colors. Symmetry just makes this shot what it is, and how the sky matches the water, brings out a bit of infinity in the shot. This is amazing, and almost flawless! :D

FLAW: Looks like some jpg artifacts on the right side, may come from save for web, compression, or crop, rotation, and possibly resolution reduction.

Otherwise, fantastic. 9/10 (if I could have voted on it) and a fav from me. (winks and a very reassuring way)

This is such a stunning photo! Everything about it is flawless: the black and white. the misty foggy look in the background, the mirror reflection in the water. I can't believe I've missed it -- but then, it was taken and entered onto dpc before I came on board. Glad I stumbled on it now -- I just added it to my favorites so I could view it often :)

Your portfolio is breath-taking. I notice a one, one two, and five threes on this photo. All of the those votes just simply seem irresponsible or vindictive to me. There is nothing in this image that could offend or bias someone against it. I think that those votes validate the argument that some people wield their vote as a blunt and brutal weapon for whatever reason. You are a gifted artist and a technically talented photographer. I know the second classification comes from hours of hard work. Your entries, in themselves, raise the bar and function as a teacher in that way.

Love this almost monochrome shot. Perfect for this challenge.

To the naked eye, the fog was much thicker than what you see here. The lens on my camera seems to cut haze and fog drastically. Hairline adjustments, at most, were made to contrast/brightness.

Most of my attention went into balancing the image as precisely as possible to match my sense of it. I wanted to emphasize the mirror-like symmetry without dead-centering the (obscured) shore-line and compensate for the additional weight of the darker hues in the reflected, lower section.

Because of the mild tonality of the image and the varying monitor calibrations given in this environment, I hardly expected the warm and enthusiastic reception the image has received. Thank you all for your interest in this photo and so many sincere comments.

Congratulations Zeuszen! wonderful image. I am left with only admiration of this shot. The tones, balance are right on. the stillness of the water that captures the reflection of the buildings and the soft muted expanse of sky all come together to give this shot that feeling of real Art. Thank You Zeuszen for sharing

The subtlety of the color tones + my colorblindness led me to think that was a b&w photo at first. Love the sharp rhythm of the fading skyline in the water. A quality shot.

Not a traditional use of composition, with the horizon in the middle, but it works well here due to the lack of color in the shot. Makes for a good mirroring of sky to water. 10 -danny

Talk about a busy harbor area! You captured the challenge very well to me but the balance of light from the left to the right is just a bit to much, to bright on the left. I like the way the line of boats draw your eye all around the shot but the masts are so empty, adds a sense of sadness, too bad you couldn't get them all to raise their sails for your shot! :)
10/12/2003 03:14:18 PM
love this! evokes a very dreamy feeling. great misty quality, and well composed.

Atmospheric perspective is put to good use here, and works with the reflection to make a peaceful image. The docked sailboats are a nice contrast and contribute to the overall effect. I don't really understand the title.

I think this shot would have worked better as a B&W since there is not a lot of color to brighten it.
10/10/2003 11:51:55 AM

A beautiful low-key image.
I'd prefer horizon to be either centred more accurately or more obviously off centre, either up or down within the frame.

I love this image and voted it quite high. I do find it awkward that the eye is drawn from right to left instead of the more natural left to right. If it were mine (and I sure do wish it was!) I would also crop the sky closer and include more water in the forerground to get the horizon off center a bit more. These are only suggestions of course...this shot is already wonderful.

Exsquisite shot. I love the composition and the vibe created by the [early morning?] mist and low sunlight. The stillness and calm belies the activity within the sprawl over yonder.

I actually believe that I'm looking at the 'perfect photograph' - nothing to criticise at all! I'd be delighted if this shot wins the blue. It certainly wins mine. [10,10,10!]

this would have been cooler if you centered the horizontal progression in your vertical view.
10/09/2003 06:16:38 PM
Nicely seen - I know others might disagree with me but IMO a tighter crop of the top to make a 50/50 even split of the reflected image would look better but 9 all the same.

Excellent shot, The haze works incredibly well, i would have loved to see another shot from about 150 meters to the right with the buildings fading out running along in a line ( perhaps you would have lost the boats then i dont know ? ). End result though ... I like it alot.
