This is the first challenge that has come up in quite a while that sparked any interest in me. I didn't know if I would shoot for it until I woke up this morning and noticed that we had a rather thick fog outside. I have been to and photographed this bridge many times before, but never in the fog. I haven't been to the bridge in quite a while though, so it was a refreshing trip.

Post Processing:

Levels adjustment, selective dodge and burn, healing brush here and there for spot adjustments, channel mixer to monochrome at 52% red and 52% green, sharpened slightly, resized, added a border...

Congrats on a great capture!!

Great traditional subject. A documentary presentation w/flourish, superior conversion, & edit is entirely satisfying.

Ohmygosh! This is stunning! I can't believe this didn't win a ribbon! At least it finished with an amazing score and placing! Congratulations!

Enthralling b/w study with rustic wood and metal and strong perpective.
Congratulations on your 7th place.

like the vanishing point effect and the softening as my eye moves back into the frame -- one of my favorites this challenge

I like this a lot. The B & W works well. Good crispness.
10/28/2006 10:35:32 PM
That looks like my bridge, but I am sure yours will do much better. ( :~

Very cool shot, love the fog and the contrast, well done.

9 - Excellent symmetry and perspective. Like the depth. Not sure on the frame, but your call, obviously.
10/27/2006 01:24:26 PM
Great photo.

I love how the world behind it is faded almost completely away. This looks like many other shots in the challenge, but yours has a magic that they lack. 8

A top pick for me. Nice mood and vantage. Excellent work!
10/25/2006 09:28:59 PM
Love the symmetry in this and the "fade into the mist" part. Good choice to use a fairly deep DOF and let the mist do the rest.
10/25/2006 11:10:03 AM
Love the composition and geometry of this.
10/24/2006 05:50:28 PM
Great shot! I like the dynamic range (it's not a flat black and white image) and the crisp focus. Great atmosphere (literally?) too.

the best one of these bridge shots i've seen in this collection
10/24/2006 02:11:36 AM

I love it!!! top 10!

My pick for a ribbon. Good lines, great toning and a nice feeling. Good timing with the fog. 9
10/23/2006 06:03:52 PM
Love the perspective and the misty background. Wonderfully done!
10/23/2006 04:30:14 PM
Forgive me for saying this, but the angle and idea seems like its been done a million times. HOWEVER! Very well done! nice tones, framing, and use of lines, if i was a member i'd give it an 8! Very well executed

Nice simple symmetrical detail and the b/w enhances the image. 9.
10/23/2006 09:09:00 AM
very beautiful. good symmetrics
10/23/2006 06:58:31 AM
Nice perspective on this one. With a little less detail in the background, you could have almost made it look like it was sitting in the clouds. Love the black and white.
10/23/2006 05:14:39 AM
Good use of tones.
10/23/2006 02:13:22 AM
I love the perspective of this shot. The fog/mist really gives it tht extra. Hoping to see this one ribbon!
10/23/2006 02:07:00 AM
The contrast is good, leading into misty horizon. So many strong lines - I like it.
10/23/2006 12:55:19 AM

10/23/2006 12:35:41 AM
