Challenge: Wind II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for Canon
Location: Petaluma CA

Aperture: 5.6

Cropped, some dodge & burn for shadows. Because of the overcast weather and bald sky, turned to Black 'n White for composition and impact.

My first title was "east wind; west cow" but decided to expand on the wind theme instead.

This is so cool. They're facing different directions.

Oh, I like this a lot. The flat topped cow just in front of the flat topped line of the hills behind, and so improbably in juxtaposition with the trees. But definitely prefer 'east wind, west cow' as a title; or not just prefer, but would insist on it because it just plain amplifies the dynamic in the picture. How often does that happen?

Lovely tones and the cow helps out to accent the lower zones. Bump.

well composed -- without the cow it's just a good shot but that cow adds the punch of black, scale, and a bit of interest. Wish the sky was a bit more of an intersting element -- being all white it draws too much of my attention to a boring part of the photo -- one of my favorites this challenge

Interesting trees shaped by the prevailing wind, and the cow looking at you makes the shot. B&W is probably the right choice.

Superb tones, and I love the inclusion of the animal. I do notice the blown sky, but really, here, I don't mind it, as it serves to emphasize the trees. Great BW conversion. 10 from me!

Great shot! Composition and focus very nice!! Add to that the adorable cow looking back at the subject. Like to see the color version.

Wonderful! It could use a little more contrast, perhaps, but it's gorgeously composed.

Like the cow! B&W conversion adds to the desolation. The tree could use a bit more contrast.

Prevailing winds have that effect on things, particularly in very barren areas like the one shown here. I like the addition of the cow - adds quite nicely to the photograph.

love this shot
great the way the cow is staring out at you
a tad humorous too - or is that just the way my mind works?

Show me the wind in action, not the results. At least to score well in this challenge I think some wind motion or action taking place is needed. JMO. As for the technicals on this image, I like the lines created by the bg hill and the bent trees. The cow takes away a little as it easily draws the eye over and becomes a more dominant subject. The conversion to B/W makes sense given the sky you had to work with, although I think the tonal range is a little short (blacks could be increased). A small dose of additional contrast would also help the image from being flat. Best of luck to you in the challenge.

Interesting composition and combination of shapes, but I don't see the wind. The calf is a nice addition to the picture.
