Canon 50mm 1.4 lens, 0.6s @ F13, ISO 100. Tripod & TC-80N3 timer. Manual focus, aperture preferred.

Lit with the oil lamp and a tungsten bulb behind it to give a bit more light & reduce the overexposure of the flame. Adjusted curves very slightly, resized & gently sharpened. No crop. That's all.

The book is an 1885 copy of Darwin's "Origin of Species...", printed by the original printer, John Murray, London.
Arguably one of the most important science texts of all time.

nice image, good atmosphere of the past, the watch is not really needed and makes it overdone. 7

That's not "late evening" :))) I like the tones here.

Great lighting
Seems like the bottom 1/3 is irrelevant... maybe needs to be cropped
But I love the mood set but the photo
Are you timing evolution?

Very nicely done indeed. Darwin is definitely the person I would choose to meet were I given the choice of anyone in history. Love the lighting/colour here.

This is a very well taken shot....I got a problem with the hand holding the watch to show the tme....just don't find it necessary

I like the setup here, but the light reflections on the metal parts of the lamp seem a bit harsh.

10. Excellent as far as photo goes, I love the lighting.
Personally, I find Darwin and his theories to be more fiction than science, but that's just what I believe (and a several milion others agree with me).

Oh very nice! The lamp, watch, and sepia tone all capture the 'golden age' of science feeling very well. One of the few submissions that really gives the real feeling of 'science'....rather than just some things that technically match the theme.

A very interesting shot, and a clever way of fulfilling the challenge.

Very well thought out photo. Your composition is excellent. The lighting is very appropriate for this shot and adds good shadows and contrasts. One small thing: there is a strange object in the top left corner. Maybe a tighter crop would have eliminated that. Good luck.

This is a very nice photo, and I like that it includes other scientific subjects and does not rely strictly on text to contribute the science, although it does that to some extent. The flame. the hands, the watch, the page all are nicely lit. This is well-done.

A REALY imortant piece of science here. And a good photo that captures the time of it's creation. I can almost imagine that it is Charles himself reading the first copy...
