WOW -lovely. Congrats on 11th. I can't imagine living in Antarctica. Brrrrrrrr - I'm one of those weak skinned Texans who is shivering when it's 40 degrees fahrenheit. LOL

Way to go!!! This is a great score -- course I would have loved to see it with a ribbon -- or at least a front page placing -- but I'm so glad it did well! Congratulations! And give those amazing friendly animals another big hug from me next time you see one :)

Thanks to everybody who voted for this one. This was my first entry in a challenge and I am very happy placing this high on the list.

Several people have asked where it is taken and what I am doing here. I am providing engineering support for a science team studying the Weddell seal population at Ross Island in Antarctica. We are 7 people in a small camp on the sea ice off the coast. Looking at a globe, go South from New Zealand and you get to the Ross Sea and Ross Island. This is where many of the old explorers were a long time ago and both Scott's and Shackelton's huts are just a few miles from our camp.
We often have Adelie Penguins around but this was a rare visit by Emperors.

Not sure about the perspective aspect of your image. Nothing to really emphasize it....but it is a great shot!
