They sure are curious. Hope mud/poo = dirt for the voters.

***** Post challenge *****

The trifecta is attained~ Thanks for all of the comments and your votes. I actually laughed out loud after I posted this last week and I think my wife thought I had gone crazy.

The posing is not hard, just have a squeaky toy and hopefully about 10 of their relatives to stand behind the camera and make wierd animal noises and hand gestures. Trip the shutter when they are all looking (hopefully at the camera). ;)

Really this was just a matter of getting on hands and knees outside their fence, thrusting the camera repeatedly through the fence and firing the shutter until satisfied. They are very curious animals and they jump back at sudden moves but then moooove right back in to take a closer look. The gal on the left was troublesome as she kept getting within about 6" of my lens. This shot was the most amusing of the bunch and the dirt was more prominent here than some of the others. The Tokina has nice DOF, but i was balanced rather precariously so sharpness suffered a little. The title was a toungue in cheek reference to Californias's "Happy Cows" commercials.

Here is the first shot i faved here at DPC. It was a shot by Arnit and it has caused me to look at cows differently ever since. I hope you will too! Arnit's
My image may have also been influenced by this fine equine portrait. Shannon's

Killer pic. I smile every time I see it.
I sometimes get this low angle by using a monopod and self timer or remote, and just put the camera on top of my boot or shoe, then turn the image 180 later. I have a bit of back problem when I get this low and try to see thru the viewfinder.
Congrats on the ribbon!

I popped up my onboard flash to give some extra lighting + some selective dodging to lighten the eye whites.

How can you not grin at this. Low and very wide angle and curious cows is a good combo. Sort of reminds me of my bar-room band days long ago. Esp the drunk looking one on the left making the song request. "Hey, can you play Wipeout?"
