Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: In the bath tub
Date: Dec 10, 2006
Aperture: 3.5

Shutter: 1/20
Galleries: Humorous, Children
Date Uploaded: Dec 10, 2006

was sort of a last minute shot of my son with some bath tub crayons that his grandparents had given him on his birthday. It looks worse than it is, as the crayons are made of soap and wash off quite easily. As for lighting I just used the lights in our bathroom with out any flash as the bathroom is lit by 8x 60watt bulbs so its rather bright. Editing was fairly simple in PS-CS2 with first opening the RAW file, levels and used colourise in the hue/sat to get the sepia effect added the white border for a little better effect and saved a small version for the web...

Greetings from the Critique Club! I have been assigned your photo to critique and here are my thoughts:

Personal Reaction: Congratulations on your first challenge entry! You’re off to a good start. I liked the photo right away when I saw it but I think it could be improved with a few simple changes.

Composition: The composition is fine but if I were editing it I would crop it a little tighter. I would crop out the diagonal tub line at the bottom, and the tub artifact mid frame on the left. They are a little distracting. To balance the photo, I might then have to crop a little off the top. The result would be a tighter image with your subject filling more of it.

Technicals: Technical execution is fine. You might want to try slightly more contrast to add shape to the boy’s back. And you might like the result if you soften some of the reflections on the shower walls.

Overall: Although I didn’t vote this challenge, I would have given this photo a score a bit higher than it’s average.

As always, these are my personal observations. Feel free to PM me if you’d like further dialog about the photo or my critique.

Looks like a white male to me, (maybe), but I get the scandelous concept.

The boy himself seems to be composed of squiggles. A priceless photo. 10

So you blackmailed the kid to let you take pictures by letting him (her?) doodle on your walls? Neat. Good candid. ~7
