I learned this technique from some research an in the forums. I really have no idea how it will go over but I like it so that' what matters I suppose.
I used 5 wide images to create a panorama - I had seen this done with a fish-eye but I didn't realize that the lens distortion makes it important to be very accurate when framing photos - this wasn't so in my case - so i had to merge them by distorting the images and blending carefully. I then skewed the anorama- added canvas to make the art a square box, then used Distort/polar coordinates to create the planet. That was good but I needed more clouds - another image used for those - birds, 1 more image. I wrote the iamge names somewhere - hopefully I can find them :) all new and all mine ... hiopefully this isn't too out there for DPC voters.

Congrats on your high score... this is really amazing. I have seen this effect before but you have made an excellent example here.

I find it difficult to through the shackles of DPC off for a challenge... but you have obviously not had that problem. Excellent work and fav (so I can find the photo again to show colleagues and friends who will love this!)

Very nice as a piece of artwork. But I'm not sure about it as "photo." One of the things the SC encouraged us to do was to vote down things that didn't retain a photographic feel. So I've struggled all week with this one and the other entry that uses a round motif.

This one feels less like a photo to me than the other one, but the sky plays a much more important role here. I was originally voting a 5, but I'll bump up a point to 6. I realize that's not much, but maybe it'll make a difference in the final ranking.

I'd definitely suggest selling this as a really nice piece of art, though! That's why I'm adding it to my favorites.

All I keep thinking is "The Little Prince," one of my favorite books. I even have a quote in my sig line. I'm not looking at this as a photograph, but rather a piece of art - of what its made is of no consequence. I'd love to see the original image, if only to see the inspiration for a wonderful piece - you've done excellent work here. Good luck in the challenge. 10 and a fav and a wish list. you are making a print, yes?

Though this may very well be may favorite in the challenge I keep wanting to look at it in a portrait orientation with a 90³ CCW rotation. Just seems to me to make more sense that way....still like it very much.

I can't vote because my membership expired, but this is the first image I've seen to effectively use the new expert rules without a tacky feel.

12/15/2006 06:51:41 PM
To me, this is more digital art than photography. While I love it and would give it a 10 in a digital art contest, I think the intent of the rules is to have the result still look like a photo. For that reason, my final score is an 8.

12/15/2006 05:44:57 PM
this would be my choice for a blue ribbon...I cannot fault this image in any way...it's sheer perfection so it has to get a 15...oops, we don't go up that far...10!
  Photographer found comment helpful.
12/15/2006 05:22:46 PM
well THIS is a ribbon. I was getting sceptical of the use of the new expert editing...until I saw this. I've seen you do this before, in a thread I think, but I can't remember your name. I honestly can't find much wrong with this, maybe make the sky a little bluer, but that would take away from the "world", but all in all the tonality is perfect. Fav + 10.

Very nice work indeed. The tall tree and birdsflying out are what make this shot sing for me. Processed very nice (autotstitch is an amazing program isnt it?). The offcentered globe is great as well. I expected to see some of these in this challenge but not as nice as this one. Well done and bumpingup to 9.
