Taken with my x-mas present from my father, the Fisheye 15mm lens (I know, it is not Christmas yet :o).. Was going for the northern lights but got so much more... I absolutely love this picture..

Raw to jpg...pp was minimal - some color desaturation and a little dodging on the snow.

After voting..
Jibb... My first ribbon, what a great way to start X-mas :o) I am SO happy..
Thanks all of you who like my image and thanks for all the nice comments.

I went on this same location, Kleifarvatn with some of my team mates from ICE&US the night before I took this shot to shoot the norhtern lights and wanted to try the fishey so I drove there again this cold dark night. It actually was so dark in the beginning that I had to keep the car lights on to see - but after a few minutes the sky lit up and I turned off the car lights... It is sooo beautiful to stand in the cold, far away from "everything" and enjoy the beauty of the nature AND the silence.

I personally like the "bent" horizon because it is the effect of the lens :o) Thanks again all of you - have a great Christmas.

Critique Club.

Composition - What can you really say about a photograph that is a ribbon winner obviously it has all the technical know how. The one major thing I can say about this photograph is I am not sure if it needs to be leveled as far as the horizon line. I did see your comment about the bent horizon line caused by the lens. I do however think keeping the bent equal on both sides would have appealed to me. Give me a break I dont know how to critique a ribbon winner.

Technical - You managed to capture what you saw and the colors and the landscape all look spot on. I can't image even trying to capture a good image is pitch darkness or what minimal light there may have been.

Post Processing - I cant image that with a landscape there is much in the need of post processing. Night time shots generally I've noticed need to have dodging done since alot of the highlights tend to show as yellow.

Overall - This is a wonderful photograph and congratulations on your Yellow Ribbon. Keep up the good work.

this is a great exposure and has nice colors, but the composition to me looks pretty unsettling, like you just used the fisheye on the tripod to suck as much of the scene into the lens as possible, without much thought on the placement. I really can't tell what it's about.

the only issue here is the Photo is 720 pixels wide... max is 640 but i dont think anyone minded 720x480 happens to be NTSC TV Max Res

The far blue sky to the left middle, brings the reality to the shot and makes it more real, great job!

Congrats on your first ribbon, personal best and .... wow! I also gave this picture a 10, it is simply stunning.

Please please please, let the company ask me to go to HQ in Iceland some day :-) I have never been there ...

I MUST go and see this for myself some day, the Northern Light in Anchorage that I have seen so far is not like this. (Too close to the city?) Or is it because of long exposure times, that you get these relative bright shots?

Anyway, well deserved, finally a ribbon for you :-)

Mmmm... I hope heaven is green. It's my favorite color. Did you know that green is the color that is easiest on the human eye? Doctors in some hospitals changed their surgical scrubs to green for that reason. I think God created plants green and our eyes to love green all in the same moment so that the world could be more beautiful for us.

fantastic concentrated color from aurora. Mountains on far left appear muddy and a fisheye lens works well with this composition I think. Good luck .

The water horizon looks curved; I guess it's very wide angle lens which produces that aberration . It might have been cooler if it was even curvier.
I'm guessing this is Larus; definitely an Icelander
