Comment made long after the challenge: You're one of the few people using the Canon 135mm f/2.0 on DPC. I tried it out recently on a 5D and like that lens a lot. It is perfectly crisp with nice depth of field control. I was wondering just how much usage you get out of yours? Now and again? or a lot? Living in a big city, my needs might well be quite different from yours. But I am curious to know, if you have time to respond. Thanks in advance.

Well this is hardly what I would call an harsh environment but I am from Iceland so I won´t deduct points for that :)

I do like this shot, I like the colors and tones in it. Two things though that stopped me voting higher than a 7 (wich is good for me, I am picky) and that is the house to the left being half cut off like that, just draws attention from the big house and also the shrubs at the bottom of the frame also draw too much attention. I would have opted for a wider lens and gotten closer over those shrubs or some other way to eliminate them.

Seems too pretty to be a 'harsh' environment

I would not call having to wake up and see a scene like this harsh, but can see how it can fit the challenge! :-P Nice entry.

Visually gorgeous scenery, but I can imagine how harsh it must be living and working here!

I really like this shot. Just wish the smaller building on the left was not included or cropped in half.

Stunning view, but this picture despite the obvious beauty just seems a little flat to me...?

No...that's not harsh. Is it. It's refuge...your title says so. Refuge is a nice place...not harsh. Those mountains way up there with the snow blowing...now that's a harsh environment. I would have focused on that. Anyway, it's a lovely photo. I'm not voting so it doesn't matter anyway.
