Nice shot! Do you usually find when you're shooting fireworks that you're only able to keep the first few? After that there's too much smoke and it seems to ruin the clarity. What do you think?

Looking through your images and the amount of ribbons you have received, I had expected to see a lot more ribbons. It is a real shame the dpc has such a tight expectation of what makes a good image. Adding you as a favorite photographer.

I can't say it any better than this, Bearman!

Wonderful image...it looks so surreal, especially the processing of the land images..I love it!

It's an artifact that shows up when extreme shadow recovery via tone mapping is combined with heavy Neat Image, I think. Without the NI the darkest sky was extremely grainy; with it, the striations creep in. I didn't have time to figure out a work-around. It's not the first time I have seen it, incidentally.

Very, very cool composition Bear. Can't complain about the colors either. Congratulations on winning the red ribbon!

Well like this better than the first place ribbon, more original approach and probably would have added it to my faves if the firework itself were more detailed and wasnΒ΄t so blown but congratΒ΄s on the ribbon, I think all three images deserved them, just think the order was reversed accidentally somehow :)

Wow!

I was beginning to get a bit jaded by all the pedestrian "here's a picture of a firework" shots, and as this one started to unroll on my screen I thought I was going to get yet another one. But no!

Love the framing, and the pervasiveness of the red hue. And the way the column of smoke discreetly merges into the general cloud cover. And the lighting of the house. And the sky pattersn. And the reflections. And the law of thirds applied in both dimensions. And, and, and...

This is beautiful. It almost looks like a painting. The landscape of houses on the water. I know this was a quick challenge and you may not have had the luxury of time to perfect the processing. The far right side of the image has a lot of chatter and It may have helped this to smooth it out some. It’s still a stunning entry and one of my favorites of the challenge so far.
