Challenge: Best of 2006 (Advanced Editing V*)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Location: Master Bath :-)
Date: Apr 14, 2006
Aperture: F/3.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Date Uploaded: Jan 7, 2007

OK, so this has quite a few favorites and a bit of views, but I can honestly say it's the best photo I've taken in 2006, if not EVER.

This was taken during a 30-day Self portrait project back in April. There was a bit of post processing done to get the toning, textures and contrast the way I wanted them to be. But in the end, it's exactly how it should be and it will probably forever be one that I am the most proud of (I just wish it wasn't of me) :-)

Normally we shouldn't use a member's photo comments section for a thread of sorts, but what the heck - let's make this a party to celebrate an astounding image and person behind it.
Come on DPC'ers and let's have a tribute party, or a roast - that could be fun too....
:)

You know Jen, I dont think any other model would have worked in this photo.. for so many reasons.
Its among one of the most powerful images i've seen to date here on DPC.. and reading your statement about it just made it all that much more magical.
I know why it moves me.. but to know you have been equally moved for your own reasons tickles me. I think we should all have those photos that move us.. so often we are commenting on how much someone elses work has affected us that we fail to stop and realize or pay tribute to our own work / art.
So congratulations for paying tribute to a beautiful, powerful piece of art.. that is you and was created by you.

Your statement: "but I can honestly say it's the best photo I've taken in 2006, if not EVER." is so right on the money.

I was very disappointed to see where this placed overall, but it's kind of ironic isn't it, that the more one of our own photographs moves us, the further down the scale they rank. I think it says something about what moves us deep inside for whatever reason, quite often in a different wavelength than the average crowd.
It's a far better thing to march to one's own beat than to fall into the hum-drum kettle in life.

Great freckles and eyes. Maybe a wee bit contrasty but I'm a sucker for the contrasty look. Back to bump you up to 8.

Really like it. Composition, tight crop are great. The look is very strong. The post-processing is really nice. The hair are great. Her left eye is well hidden/notreallyhidden (don't know how to say it).
Very powerfull portrait.

Love the freckles and the expression, but the contrast is too high for my taste. There's no dynamic range in the hair, it's just jetblack and highlights.
