 Selecting a photo for the best of the year is next to impossible. I don't know if this is the best, but I think it is very special, because the position of the butterfly and the color of its wing, make it look as though the butterfly wing is a petal of the flower -- perfect camouflage.

Post Processing:
Cropped, blurred the background slightly, sharpened the butterfly and center of flower slightly, reduced noise slightly, adjusted levels, curves to brighten the center of the flower, curves to brighten the butterfly, resized, sharpened slightly, saved for web.

I love how there are just 3 main colors, black, red and green and the pop of yellow that comes through. Also how the colors repeat throughout the frame is a working plus. Very rich colors. I might have cropped just a bit off the bottom myself to remove the other yellow spots, but that is just a minor nitpick. Wonderful photo and glad it did well for you!

I think this is a very interesting photo, and shows camouflage perfectly. I suspect a lot of people, voting quickly, missed that little touch of genious.

nice enough, but something seems a bit off. maybe the soft focus just isn't working for me here, or maybe it's just a bit too dark.

You hit the perfect angle here to really show off the butterfly's camaflouge; everytime I look I have to do a double take to remember I'm looking at the wing and not the petal. Nice job.

Needs much more contrast especially to distinguish the butterfly from the flower. It's still very pretty though.

Very well composed and excellent colour. Focus is great. Would like to see more exposure on the wings for a bit more detail there but I still think it's a top shot.

In deepening the contrast, the depth between the butterfly and flower is lost. I think it's a gorgeous picture with grand color. I'd love to see it processed a bit less contrasty.
