I saw this photograph and fell in love with it. It is beautiful, thoughtful, creative, and bold yet sweet. Then I went over to vi.sualize.us and found your photo again. It does not link back to you as far as I can tell. And, most offensively, people have titled the photograph "Death". I wanted you to be aware that it was floating out there. I saved it on my own vi.sualize.us and gave it your own title and credited it back here. Hope that helps. :) |

There are a number of things that can explain the low votes; a dislike of the portrait genre; a dislike of repetition in submissions; a suspicion that the photographer actually isn't challenging him/herself; a dislike of a sense of exploitation in photography (not everyone like Arbus' work, either); a dislike of the high-contrast mono production; a bunch of other stuff, probably.
The fact is, that this is a popularity contest here, and Manny knows he can score well with this stuff. If his sole consideration re DPC is to score well, it is evidently inevitable that a shot of this woman would be his entry.
My personal opinion is that it's a boring choice (both as entry and as winner), for that very inevitability, and in a genre that I just don't understand, and that doesn't seem very 'photographic' to me: rather, 'illustrative'. But more power to Manny for his popularity here, and his success outside of here; and likewise, more power to those willing to voice their dislike of that sense of inevitability in challenge results these days. |

As for you, Manny...well - you already know what I think about the entire series with Rosalinda. Pure Genius. Ballsy and real...the way an A-Class artist should be ;)
All the best, Pare...keep on bein' you.

whiterook, if you have a very dark calibration on your CRT/LCD, that might be true. But trust me when I say this is truly a masterpiece, and it's perfectly exposed. You may wanna checkout a Spyder, to automatically calibrate your monitor.
On my monitor your entries seem very overexposed, so I'm guessing it's a calibration problem.
Manny, A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Congrats with your blue! |

Nine 4's
That is just TOTALLY insane. Do these voters have NO eyes at all and just pushing buttons at whim?
An absolutely ASTOUNDING photo. I am sure you are gonna sell this on somewhere. It grabs my heart. Congratulations on an awesome capture. |

Manny!! I am not fond just giving "oohhhs and ahhhs I like it, etc" but when I saw this on the most popular galleries with another site, "WOW" was the only word that came out of my mouth.
Since this is the second time I saw this and my mouth isn't hanging open anymore due to awe :-O, I can finally say more. The beauty on her face is still pretty unmistakable even with all the deep lines that now cover her skin. You have such an eye to capture the essence of life through your work. I hope this will win the BLUE! If not, so what!, you are already a winner anyway!! Good luck! |

hey librodo,
i loved the original. this one isn't my cup of tea. i find the composition to be not at its best. the close up makes the shot to noisy for me. to many distrations and the nose isn't in focus and it's smack in the middle of the frame. The lighting also seems to be really harsh...or a little too harsh anyways. all in all it's a good shot, but the original was better. 7 |

There she is again. That haunting woman in the powerful photograph! Yes, this definitely would be my "Best Of" photo too if it were mine! |

Fantastic up-close-and-personal portrait with wonderful sharpness. Do like the high contrast but perhaps it's a touch too high - the whites seem a little harsh. But perhaps that was the intention. |

Not as brilliant as your original entry in "Textures IV", neither in composition nor in processing - but still a very, very good portrait. |

This was my favourite of the series you took of this beautiful woman. I even remember reading your forum post about her which is something I never bother to do. With this image you have drawn emphasis on her character and even the faults that make her who she is. This photo is art. You tha manny. |

I'm getting tired of seeing the same picture over and over again. In my opinion, from the photography's standpoint, this portrait is just like many others; most of the impact of this portrait comes from the choice of the model. Granted, spotting a subject/model also takes skill, but I believe a true photographer should strive to remove his dependency on the subject, whereas pictures like this demonstrate how strongly some well-regarded photographers depend on their subjects. 4 |
