Selecting the BEST shot from 2006? Man, that's impossible!! I processed some shots I like from 2006 and chose this one - that's all.

*** After challenge ***
Wow, thanks for your nice comments, votes and faves! Was a pleasure for me :) Some additional infos:
This was shot in Münster, Germany
Watch out for him if you visit Gary's workshop in June. You will probably find him at the "Prinzipalmarkt".

I really did not much d&b. The patterns on the wall were so strong, they created a "natural" d&b ;) I think this is the reason why some said "too much d&b".

This was a VERY lucky shot: I wanted to take a photo of him but so many people were passing by! So I took one (!) halfhearted snapshot of him. Back home on my PC I realized that I hit a very special moment - yeah! :)

The whole scene is very interesting. Looks like it came out of the old vaudville days. Good job.

Personally, I don't like the D&B work here, since it gives the shot an almost cartoony feel. It does serve to highlight the subject, however your framing and timing have already accomplished that admirably, making the D&B seem unnecessary. Trust your instincts, and do what feels right. Good luck this week, and in the coming year. A very interesting shot, by the way.

Very nice work. I'm somewhat bothered by the relentless symmetry of it, because to me that seems out of place given the context, but I can see how the formality of the composition plays off the weird formality of his clothing, so I am probably off-base with that. In any event, one of my high scorers.

Excellent capture. Love the tones. I looked at this for a while; it's compelling, but something doesn't click for me. I think the left part is weak compare to the rest--the bike is a bit distracting. I like it better cropped to the poster, or even cropping a little past the poster, cropping it out.

This is my favorite of the challenge. The only aspect that I don't like is the 100& black rectangle in the top right corner but besides that this is an absolutely splendid image -- 10.

What a crazy shot! I thought it was staged at first, but then it has so many authentic elements... Love his pose & most of your post technique - really hot whites are a tad distracting but not terribly so. << 8 >>

Oh at last - I was beginning to think I'd been condemned to look at a ceaseless round of bland landscapes, blooms and other people's children being cute for all eternity. All of a sudden I find myself capable of facial reaction again. Despite a suspicion of over-processing - his cloak looks impossibly smooth, really, this has charm, elegance and just a touch of subversion in the bicycle wheel.

Mummified in time. It's like looking into the past, past the mouth of the tomb. An odd sort of sensation really. Quite an excellent character to photograph. 8.
