I just have to comment, I noticed this picture as a thumbnail and said to myself gee thats dark what is it? As it loaded I started seeing the rails in the light and it was dark again, but as my eyes adjusted to the picture man that small light in the top near the banisters above the dark arches really lightened the whole picture. Wow! I like it! It is like looking through a window or Matrix! Congratulations!

This is definitely number one for me. Sumptuous tones and subtle lighting, great angle, beautiful texture. Great title too - a master at work for sure.

Shame on that person who voted 2 (or any below 7 to be frank).

Now the border works on this shot. This is a technically good photo as well as a moving artistic expression. Whether its a place where I would worship or not, it has atmosphere and depth in the tones of the shadows and the definition o fthe walls and supports. One thing that might count against it is that the alcove/doorway that is in darkness in the lower right seems to have something in it that is distracting. If this were printed I'd think the "blemish" might be someone's thumbprint after eating some potato chips or something. It isn't solid but it is distracting. Still, this is a very high scoring photo. Good capture. How many did you have to take to come away with this one?

Dynamic perspective, fine crop (taking into account the respective weights in the image), great rendering and display of this fugue of variable light!

A profound joy and a model of a photograph!

Love it how the line of better lighted arches lead the eye across the frame,
Very nice exposure and toning, the focus remains on the lighter cross section whereas the darker parts fill in the details so that you know what you are looking at. Lower right and upper left corners are slightly darker, works well.
Nice subtle framing.

Great job!

This is my highest rated photo of this challenge. I like the architecture, the lighting and the angle of this scene. Not only does this picture give me a sense of sacred, it also captures "Holiness". A compelling piece.

8, or 9 I'm pondering. I wonder if it's too dark for many here? It certainly isn't for me ... my problem with it is that it's perhaps a little straight-forward. A great moment of lighting to capture, placing the sunlight onto that line of pillars, and capturing the loom of the rest of the building. Great focus and detail, of course, but you don't get a ten because in the end I don't quite like it as much as my favourite of this challenge, and I find my second favourite a little preferable to this, but whether that's a whole point's worth ...

WOW, brilliant... This remind me of a FMV scene from a high class computer game... I love how the light just catches the stone across the middle of the picture, I can sense the colours in the stained glass windows too at the top. Well deserved 10!

wonderful job! your perspective and the placement of the column just off center to the left, supporting the arch that finds its way to the uper left corner, brings great balance to the whole image. 8

Very dramatic shot here. The lighting is very well done on the bannister but the darkness in the lower arch is a bit much for me personally, maybe a little different crop that would take the bannister from one corner to the other? The thin white border is also a bit of a distraction. I started at a 4 from the first glance but am going to a 7 on this one.

Clean, simple and very pleasing to the eye. I love the angle. The light really focuses on the row of small pillars which i think brings out the majesty of the catehdral, It reminds me of the Cathedral in Cologne.

Good play of shadow and light, especially the way the sunlight is highlighting a parallel line toward the top of the photo there. The perspective is also very appropriate.

While I like your angle of view I would have liked to have seen a little more of the rest of the building. I know that this might have been impossible and I know this might look better bigger but that is my opinion.

The light picks out beautiful details, and the lines of the arches curve away into darkness - very spiritual. A light shining in the darkness. 9

terrific lighting. this might be more striking in black & white or even duotone, picking up the mid shade of the brown brick.
