A guide to dead birds? (just kidding :-)) This photo is very well done. Love the shallow depth of filed as it brings emphasis to the bird. The sharpness and detail are amazing. The colours are great - the orange beak with the blue water behind it. The composition is good too. Love the way it curves. This indeed would be a great shot for a book cover.

This is really a stunning shot. The short depth of field is crucial to making this picture come out well, and that brilliant green eye is amazing. I can't think of any constructive criticism to give you, so I think I'll stick to admiration!

This is a great shot, I like the way you captured this off center and added the water in the right of the picture which to me accentuated the beak, I like this good capture and perfect match to your title. hes kinda ugly isn't he? ha ha

beautiful green eyes but the back looks a little too out of focus in an unnatural sort of way- don't get me wrong though, a wonderful bird portrait- audobon would be proud.

Beautiful! I was going to do Peterson's or Audubon guide, but couldn't get it together in time. Yours is good with good detail. Especially the eye. Good dof too. 10!

Impressive photo. The detail on the bird is very prominent, brought out even more throught the shallow DOF. I know you couldn't have done anything about it, but the color of the eye clashes against the blue background.
