My wife was watering the garden. We have allocated watering days because of the drought. She pointed out this fellow who was about 15mm in size (about 1/2 inch). I took about 70 images using my SB600 flash with a Lightsphere to soften the light. I used my Sigma 105mmm 2.8 Macro, a lens love. I pulled back the flash a little but because it was dark, couldn't get a better exposure than this. I would have preferred anouther coulour background, but in the end, I don't mind how it goes from light to dark...adds an eerie quality.

EDIT: Crop, levels, saturation, noise reduction, smart sharpen, resize, USM...I think that's it.

6.2???

POST: Thanks everyone, and yes, sorry to scare you all. I HATE spiders as well and you have to know I was particularly wary of this one. He wasn't too big actually, and my macro made him/her look huge! It's an outdoor, night time image. I like the background gradient. The lighter part is actually a post in our picket fence.

I took many images and ocasionally it would move and I would freak out! I managed to get about 5 or 6 inches away and get shots like this.

My wife had hosed the garden and that's what bought it out. There are water drops on the body. The lightspere on my flast did an OK job and that Sigma 105mm 2.8 is so sharp...no tripod here, and if I had one, it might have been even sharper, cause a macro at 1/60 isn't a good idea and I am not the steadiest person around.

Thanks again for the votes and comments. Interesting there were only 4 10's, not that I am complaining, but I have had many images that didn't do as well as this with many more...was it the subject matter?

Great shot, Enzo. Spiders are sooo difficult to photograph well. You did a super job here.
