Greetings from the CC. Well, I like that you have a wide range of tones in the B&W. Your image falls into the category of concept images which certainly is popular these days. And not always easy to do. I am not sure what to say that has not already been said in the comments. The woman in the picture is so important even tho she is blurred, without her it would be nothing. The low angle really works!

Congrats on the ribbon!

This photo jumped off the main page at me. It's simplistic and the title fits the mood perfectly. Great job!

Great photo. I always believe that 90% of the time taking pictures of people's backs is a bad thing. This picture falls under that other 10% as it gives good context to the photo. Sure, I think if you had another guy in the bench look back toward the lady, it would have been perfect, still it is terrific the way it is. The technicals are perfect: lighting, sharpness, focus, depth are all there. The composition is idea, nice low perspective catch the whole body of the subject, with the leading line in the bench pointing toward here. The texture of the ground and it's wetness add a lot of character to the photo. A wonderful well executed shot. Congrats on the ribbon!

Congrats. Great photo. Love the reflections and the contrasts all over the place. Very interesting, simple and elegant, great use of DOF. But I couldn't figure what the building was in the background, despite living there for 15 years.

I listed my wrong lens,
I need to correct that
02/26/2007 06:19:41 AM
Great image! I added it to my favs. :-)

But why does it say you used a f/1.8 aperture when the lens you listed as using was a 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED??

nice personification. i read somewhere that you need a way to connect the foreground with the background to keep the eyes moving, so leaving that piece of bag overlapping the handle was textbook. all in all nice job.

Great tonal range - perfect in black and white.
Too many pictures here have just been converted to b/w regardless of they suitability in monochrome or not.

Excellent shot. The dof works so well..having the girl out of focus. It looks rainy and dreary...which works with her walking away from the scene. 10. LOVE IT.

I don̢۪t have much knowledge on street photography but my thoughts on you shot are as follows: I love the simplicity of this shot. The bench and the pillars behind draw me into the shot and then the lady walking along. Just lovely. 10

I love this scene. It really does give the impression that she up-and-left from the seat....but it looks a bit wet to be sat one in my opinion! Lovely DOF and contrast. 8

Lovely image, very much reminiscent of Cartier-Bresson and his contemporaries. Really like your composition, the viewpoint from which you've chosen to shoot, the depth of field that softens the details of the grand pillared building behind just enough but not too much and, of course, the lone female carrying her shopping home. The fact that she's wearing black is actually crucial to the success of the image as her almost silhouetted form really needs that solidity to balance the strong blacks of the bench. High contrast is just right too. Oh and the wet pavement glistening as well. All good!
