Well I took this on the last night of submission. I hadnt been taking photos due to an injured leg, but when I saw that the stars were out and the conditions right for what i had visualised, I just had to take a trip out to this weird tree.

Basically all I did was have a 30sec exposure, where I fired my sigma flash (off camera) at the tree from the right.

I took a couple of goes to get the exposure right, adn fit the moon in properly.

the orange glow is Richmond in the distance. the small clouds got nicely illuminated, as did the tree with the moss on it.

thats it. cheers for all the comments

OH JUST ONE MORE THING! I really think that having a no editing challenge will do DPc the world of good. It really does help u know your camera and how to use it to get the right photo to start with, rather than one u adjust in every way possible.

Awesome shot!!! I would be interested in how you got this capture as well, long exposure and spot light to illuminate?? Just a guess...I also have to agree and disagree with the comment on non post processing, yes it is important to compose and (for lack of a better term) get right as many elements of a photo as possible in camera, but as Ansel Adams once said the important thing is the final image, how you get there is of little importance...(not an exact quote I am sure, but you get the idea) if the final image is good how you arrive at it is of little consequence...IMO. Photoshop usage, or manipulation is an art form in and of itself...you have to have the image you want to portray in mind before you start to get the end result you want, and I know (at least for me) Photoshop (or similar programs) are not a lot of help since I am not very adapt at using them, lol. Anyway, off my soap box...GREAT PHOTO!!!! Job well done...congrats!!!

This shot is just great...but you owe it all to that tree and how it's all by its self...I look every where and kind find something like that...nice find and you did shoot it quite well also.

I like your comment on the no editing challenge to many photographers these days dont know how to edit in camera that is just one of the downsides to digital darkrooms they are to forgiving i wuold like to see some of these people shoot old film and have to develop it themselves photograhpy is or was i shuold say a hands on artform at one time we are losing that.

Simply brilliant capture ... made all the more so by following the Minimal Editing rules. Wow.

I'm curious how the stars remain sharp points in the sky with a 30sec exposure. Is this a combination of them being fairly low on the horizon, versus overhead, along with a wide FOV (WA shot)? I've noticed "star trails" in some of my shots with less than 30 seconds.

Congrats on the blue; well deserved.

I was away and didn't vote on this challenge - but if I had, I believe I would have pressed "10" on the bar (which only happened once before in my time here).

To me this picture proves that it's not the equipment and you don't have to be a PS wiz. to make great pictures - when the right person is behind the camera amazing things can happen.

This is extremely well done and going straight into my fav's.
