 My first attempt at low-key! This was a lot of fun to shoot. Set up my tripod on self-timer, then played with a flashlight. I learned a tons about shadows, and how to keep them out of photos. I purposely used a textured wall to give the feeling of a Mediterranean environment since the subject is a sunflower. I like the little bright area on the stem. Hope the voters like it as well.

Very little editing. USM, about 5% shadow/highlights, resize for web.

All I can say that technically it is perfect, compositional nearly perfect. However, I think it is like writing the next "Great American Novel", it is hard not to tread on other's ideas. Wonderful shot though, and it really shows that you do have a great command of your camera and your subject. A terrific score for a wonderful picture. Congrats.

This is a gorgeous photo! I didn't vote in this challenge but would have given this a 10. The light is wonderful, and the detail in the shadows is captivating!

This was one of my favorites from the challenge, Catherine - you did a fine job! The petals, in my opinion, are perfectly lit for this, and yes, I do like that little lit bit on the stem. I'm actually surprised this didn't score higher than it did. Good choice for the background, and I do like being able to see some of the texture.
