Challenge: Circle II (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon MF 105mm f/2.5 AIS
Location: Outside Seattle City Hall
Date: Mar 9, 2007
Aperture: 4
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/80
Date Uploaded: Mar 9, 2007

Taken at Seattle City Hall again, it is actually 2 blocks away (that and the library) so it makes it quick pictures during lunch break. I knew I wanted to shoot these glass things for the circle challenge. It wasn't the picture I had in mind going there, but I really happy that I took it. There are are a tone of little things going on in the picture, which I really enjoy. The benches, the bus, the street sign, the walk sign, the headlights, etc... For me it is something the grows on me the more I look at it.

Post: Not much really, a little white balance tweak, some contrast adjustment and some sharpness added. Non crop

Shot taken with my 105mm at f4. Overcast gray skies typical of this time of year. Handheld. Only had time for 37 shots before lunch was over.

With my current record, guessing a 4.7. I have a couple of other photos, one in particular that I would think would get a 5.6 or so, but this one just moves me today, so I am going with it.

Post Challenge Comments:
Looking back on it, probably would have been better at f8 or f11. Noticed a 2 point difference in the commenter's score and the result. Crazy. A very different picture for me, though I really like it.

Outtake (boring, though probably would have score better):

Great shot. Saw this while browsing the "recently commented on" photos. Just goes to show that you can't rely on your score or placement in a challenge to determine if a photo is good.

I came across this image while researching shots taken with the 105 2.5 AIS.
I echo the sentiments about this image deserving a higher placing.
Excellent capture and spot-on w/ meeting the challenge.
ANyways, how do you like that 105?

What a wonderfully colorful abstract of the urban jungle.

You truly got robbed with that overall score!

Lately I'm convinced that voters are retarded but those that comment and vote are actually seeing the image, so 7.1... sounds about right!

this would have gotten a huge score from me if I had voted (12? 13?). It's my kind of surprising, stimulating, lose-yourself, colorful, energetic, painterly photo.

this has a fascinatingly chaotic look.

I really like this shot. It's like a whole hodge podge of different ideas all tossed in together and it gives that everyday busy look. The title is great.

absolutely wonderful! I think this version is the most interesting one, it is so intriguing, makes me think and look at it longer and closer - and it is so nice! there is something weird and surreal about it in a natural way if you understand, not in a computer art way - just like I love it!:)

I know busy was the intent, but overall it seems too distracting photographically speaking.

There is a lot going on here and at first I didn't like this much. I kept looking at it and it grew on me. 7

Now this one makes me stop and look, and then look closer, and all over... It's rich in implied detail. I like this image a lot. Wonder if a little more work on levels might pop it out even more - perhaps you already worked that angle. Whatever. 8.

There's a lot going on there, perhaps too much but it's an interesting image

goodness! a bizarre and absorbing composition! i like this quite a lot, and is quite rewarding. seems slightly too chaotic to truly fit the challenge (to me anyway, any challenge with emphasis on a geometric shape kind of suggests strong clarity of lines). but i do love it as art.

my first weighted scoring system™; composition + technical 3/3, challenge 0.5/1, post processing results 1.5/2, ooooh factor 2.5/3, originality 1/1 = 8.5 (rounded to 9)
