Spent a whole evening spinning a Christmas ornament and quickly taking the shot before it spun out of frame, which unfortunately it did most of the time. :) The not-blue band of coloring just under the middle of the ball is the lettering that was painted onto it - the ornament is a city souvenir. I cropped it and did some exposure and white balance processing in Camera RAW, and in Photoshop proper tweaked the coloring and added a small amount of Gaussian blur.

I like the impressionistic feel of "spin" in this image. Maybe it won't be very eye-catching to most viewers, and so might not score well, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Post-challenge: I still like it, even if most voters didn't :) Thanks for all your comments!

I thought this conveyed spinning in a dynamic fashion. I gave it a 6. That's higher than what I gave the blue ribbon winner. :)

Positives:
Simplicity, color and tones are the strengths of this image. Technically done very well. Off-centered composition adds viewer interest to the composition.

Technicals:
Technically quite good, especially the streaks that convey the sense of spinning that any viewer can easily see. Though the nature of this image does not have a lot of tonality, what it does have is very nice. Light and exposure is well balanced across the frame.

The Challenge:
No doubt, meets the challenge.

Something unique among motion blur images is that the highest scoring ones usually have something in the frame that is sharply focused. The highest scoring images have sharp areas in the actually moving object. Yours has none of that.

The image has a surrealistic, impressionistic feel but those type images typically do not fair well at DPC. That is to bad.

This is a well conceived and executed image both photographically and technically but scored like its little more than garbage. That is not very satisfying when you put a lot of work into it. Don't despair, you won't hit a home run on every image.

Suggestions:
None. Perhaps the problem with this image is that voters thought it dull and uninteresting. Perhaps you, me and your mom are the only people that like it. ;)

Aesthetically pleasing. I suspect it won't score well, but I like it. 8

It's quite a blur. There should have been some identity. It could have passed of as an abstract, but it's not even technically sound.

I can take a guess that this is a globe, but since I can't tell...

Great motion capture. While the typical "DPC Sharp" I like the motion blue that was achieved here. The colors are nice and create good interest. It would be nice to make the background a little whiter but that might be nitpicky.

The composition is well done and compliments the subject well.

The challeng: A natural approach to the challenge however this does have enough visual appeal to stand out in a crowd.

No focus? Nothing's really drawing me in to the photo.

I love this image. You did an excellent job conveying spinning. Nice colors, too.
