Food and drink, obviously; but the Christian iconography is not by accident. I hoped also that the broken bread would somehow suggest the feeding of more than one - i.e. family, or friends, or partners - despite the single wine glass (but hey, the sacrifices demanded by composition).

I feel I should add that I am not a religious person - in fact am a committed atheist. This is not however an attempt to make any kind of comment.

Greetings from the critique club

This is technically a good shot. It's just not, well, exciting.

Focus and lighting are good. Composition good, I might suggest cropping up to the top of the cutting board. Loose the dark edge.

A little light, reflected or otherwise, on the center of the bread would help bring out more detail there.

Additional light on the wine, either from behind or above could also make that look more interesting. Now it's just dark, not inviting.

The backdrop is too many shades of red/orange. If that was a more uniform red w/dark shadows I think it may help.

I hope this helps, and of course, it is just my opinion.

JC

As symbolism this isn't strong enough for me, but it's a good, competent shot, well lit but just a bit dull really. Had this been in a dinner situation with people socialsing and benefiting from it then it would be more potent I feel.

Very nice interpretation of the challenge. Lighting, color and composition are well done. It looks like some details are lost on the right side where the folds of the velvet made it look like it was the edge of the cloth. 8

Nice composition and lighting, except that I'd like to see the glass highlights stand out better.

Nice still life. dof right on.

excellent still life... some creatively placed flash light behind that glass of wine coule possibly make it glow in the glass nicely :)

good subject. Nice red drape in the background. The red wine is a little lost against all the red tho'. I'd crop the bottom edge of the cutting board and on the right just loose the bright line in the cloth. The lighting in a bit flat - more from the left or a white board to bounce the light back better?

Lovely studio shot. I can't think of a thing to change. A little less lighting might create more of a mood, but I like it the way it is. Nice work.

You mean bread and water didn’t you?;) Just joking. Perfect photograph as far as I’m concerned. Hope you place in the top three.

I don't drink wine, but I do love your shot anyway! It may be just a tad dark, but the simplicity of the composition and the direction of the shadows works very well. The background serves the shot well, too.

Bad Points: Dull lifeless subject, area on the right distratcting (end of curtain? or just dark?)
Good Points: well exposed, pretty well composed apart from the right side, nice lights.
Overall Score: 5

nice still life a little dark on the left and it possibly might have done well with a crop on the right but overall nice composition and textures

Very nicely constructed still life. You have done a very good job with the lighting, backround and placement of the subjects.

Simply a beautiful photo. I absolutely love the colour co-ordination here and the lighting. The image is not too busy with objects filling the frame. Overall a lovely image that certainly portrays a message. Well done and GL in this weeks challenge.

Wonderful.... so simple, yet so complete... I just love the composition and the theme. Not too sure about the shadows though... Maybe a bit harsh. But I would still give it a 10. I wish it ribbon!

The velvet red drape is awesome here. I think the light could of been dimmed a hair, but this is still very good. Pleasant to look at.

Religious connotations, or just happy to have a simple meal??? Either way, this is an excellent still life. Great lighting, composition, and I like what you did with the folds in the background. Good luck in the challenge! JD
