The London Eye at dusk.

Wow.. thanks everyone for the votes and comments..

This is a rather cliched shot of the British Airways London Eye just after sunset. I used a Canon 5D and 17-40L lens with an aperture of f10 at 30 seconds to capture the movement of the wheel.

It was actually still quite bright (the sun sets almost directly behind the wheel at this time of year) and I needed to use a combination of ND and Graduated ND Lee filters to allow a slow shutter speed and to 'balance' foreground light.

The 30 second exposure was just enough to blur the many people who were walking from the eye towards the camera... it took a few goes before I had a 'clean' version

An awesome photography. One of the prettiest ones I've seen on DPC. I hope you've collected well from this photo. Beautiful!

Congrats on the Blue. This is a beautiful shot. I used to drive past this (saw it from the time it lay flat for so long because of complications until it was raised) and see it from this angle a few times a week while living in London, the surrounding area sure has changed in the 6 years I have been away. I thought the "Eye" was only going to be there for a few years, they have obviously changed their minds LOL. Way to go it was one of my favs in this challenge.

Woaaa I'm confused that looks like the same exact shot

Like Chris said in his description, it's a rather clichéd shot. A lot of people take similar pictures of this landmark. It just goes to show that even clichés can win ribbons if very well done, as this certainly is! It's a great example of how useful Graduated ND filters can be. Most London Eye At Night photos have a much darker sky with overexposed foreground lights. The exposure here is perfect. I also like the unlit trees, which don't detract from the subject like the typical photos do.

very cool shot - congrats on the blue. I do however suspect that (like the eiffel tower at night) the london eye is under copyright laws which prevent you taking pictures of it for anything other than personal purposes..

A high score from me. The lighting is magical. I think I saw the "eye" in another entry, too. I hope you'll share your exif info when the challenge has ended. Good luck,

It's good but I find the fairy lights in the trees distracting, but I don't suppose there was much you could do about that was there.
