A pregnant Baboon at the zoo seems to await her new arrival. I never took the time to really look at primate expressions and after shooting about 10 pics and editing them I almost feel spooked by the expressions I captured. This photo was taken through glass at the zoo on a partly cloudy day. I did some basic level adjustments and some spot tool editing.

The Gelada Baboon of Africa. The more I edited the more interested I became.
Greater and smarter in fact than any other non-human primate. To hear him speak, is as it were to listen to a foreign language being spoken. The expressions on the face are in fact signals with a distinct meaning: the raising of the eyebrows reveals two red triangles above the eyes - a warning signal; the rolling back of the upper lip in a ghastly smile, a flash of red gums and white teeth, signifies (as perhaps does the human smile) appeasement, and thus avoids possible conflict.

Thanks to my mentor, best friend and lifelong partner Wendy(shutterfly)..

Usually feel guilty looking at animals in zoo, and especially uneasy at primates, but you have shown grace and dignity in this Gelada.

This is well composed, lighted and exposed, but you've gone beyond just the technicals here. The eyes really make this image pop, and give the baboon a more human quality and evoke a sense of feeling. Won't be surprised if this one makes the front page. Good luck. 9

Right then, joke's on me as I now have to plough through 564 images and bump them all (yes, all of them) up. There'll be a third run through for fine tuning. It's day two three now and I'm running late, sorry.

It's Clint Eastwood! Lovely portrait. &

Great capture of expression and "hairdo," but post is a litte bit too heavy. There's a nice combination of wildness and anthropomorphism going on here. I'm undecided on the background brightness as I think it should be toned down a bit. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was a ribbon winner, and my score will reflect that as well.
