Holy Cow! What a surprise!

I wasn’t expecting this one to do so well.

:)

----------------------------------
This is a simple de-saturation.

In your editing program, you should be able to achieve this by simply dropping the saturation levels on the colors you want to eliminate. (It's a pretty simple over-all color adjustment).

On this shot, I increased the Red and Magenta slightly and I dropped the Yellow Green Cyan and Blue down to a zero saturation.

I had to de-saturate the image with this same step a second time to remove the color completely.

There is a tutorial by “Miller” available in the “Learn” dropdown, under “How’d They Do That”
Miller's De-Saturation Tutorial

Here is a similar edit used by David Sidwell. (Which was also my inspiration for using the technique).
(Thanks David)

Congrats on your ribbon. Sometimes simple works best, and in this case that is true. So, how do you feel about this shot? Its a bit different from your time studies. I think it was the use of red that really made this shot stand out.

Some point-and-shoot cameras can do this effect in the camera, but here this is probably not the case

I agree, I'd love to know how to do this with basic editing rules. I've tried before but never been able to do it. Can you explain please?

Nicely done... hard to believe it's just basic editing. If so, then I give it a 9. ETA: As a newbie, I guess I just learned something about desaturation - thanks!

Usually I do not like when only one color is preserved in a black 'n' white shot, but this one works well. Nicely done.
