This is one very special place to rest and enjoy. It is my sisters jetty just outside her cottage home, on the Brisbane Waters.
She parked her bicycle on the edge of the jetty, with this beautiful reflection of the clouds in the waters. I just caught the moment when a seagull came by, and made a perfect landing. Enjoy.....

post comment; I entered this image the day before my accident, where I fell backwards, and landed on my tailbone.

I injured my spine severely, with a two crack fractures in my 12th. Vertebra.

I had a 8 day stay in hospital, and now recovering at the apartment in Sydney, before Peter and I fly home to Queensland.

We returned home to Queensland, on the 20th April 2007.

I am so very pleased with this result. Thank you for all those comments and votes.....

Processing steps.....Very simple, as it was a 'BASIC' challenge.....

I used the weather conditions of that day, and the early morning shoot to achieve this effect.

The clouds were building up, and it looked like a storm was approaching in the distance, so the cloud formation was just right.

It was also a very calm day, and the water was perfectly still, so that is why the reflection is so good.

The tide was either going out, or coming in, so not very deep water but enough to get this effect.

Basic rule for this one but the only thing I did was saturate the colors to achieve this blue/lavender look, as I like this effect. Some say it was to blue, but it was this shade, and I just strengthened it.

I hope this helps, as a few people have asked how I did this with the 'Basic' rules.

There is something special about this photo, it has a magnificence far beyond the subject matter, which was perfectly proportioned in the shot. BTW. : )

This is a really pretty shot- its a got good balnce and very interesting light. The clouds are great- but the viewers eye cannot rest there in this shot- it is forced to look first at the bicycle, then at the at the path; but the eye gets waylayed on the bird; which is nice and leads to a total lack of rest and peace.
So -you describe the place as peaceful and restful and it looks just that way- the morning adventure on the waterway- the stop at the water froma bikeride- but the viewer- or the traveller- can't really rest. and ther eis the irony- that makes it interesting.

Love the sense of depth to this Shez, and the way the jetty seems to point straight across to the dip in the hills.

Love the line of the pier leading out to the water. The bike is the subject, but the setting is a perfect location for it.

This is terrific. Hard to believe you milked this out of Basic Editing. It looks like a painting. I'd be curious to know your post-processing steps.

What really makes this shot is the mood captured. The lone bike on the dock that spans toward the horizon just sits there patiently waiting for us to hop on and take a ride. The beautiful lakeside/oceanside, the boats passing by and the clouds lazily sailing past are just some of the things we are promised on this bike ride. The dock draws our eye to the horizon and thereby we notice the lake, the clouds and the boats. Not sure why but the 'pose' of the bike (mayhap because of the off balance lean) projects a relaxed, easygoing attitude - perfect for a relaxed easy breezy day to just cycle and see the scenery.

peers are one of my favourite things to shoot, add to it a great view, a strong subject and you get a perfect image.
honestly this scored higher, and in my opinion should have scored higher, the top 3 were good shots, but this is a great shot!

The bird is great, although it takes some of the attention from the bicycle. The picture seems to have a somewhat unnatural blueish tint.

Perfect days make for wonderful shots, and you have accomplished that here.

The hills, the bird and the background sailboats really make the shot.

I like very much the composition and the bird landing on the water, which adds interest to the image, but there is something not working with the white balance, there is too much blue in the picture
