That's the 70-300 with a reversed Minolta Rokkor 50mm taped on the end.

Here's the graphic representation, with a picture of the lens+camera, tripod mounted, poised as though to take the photograph over which the little picture is inlaid -

What with the little bug crawling around so much (they do that, you know?), tripod mounting was no use. I 'contained' the poor creature within a rear lens cap (which ends up being the front lens cap what with the lens being mounted arse about face) and desperately jerked the shutter button every time something came anywhere near in focus. It's on the 'roof garden' (?) in sunlight. The reflection on the wingcover is of the sky, I think. When its photo session was over, critter went into a plant pot and I suspect it either flew away or was eaten by something else that flew away. So it goes. I think it has an unusual amount of personality for one so small.

All the focussing has to be done manually, with either the zoom function or the focussing ring of the 70-300. The 50mm is all taped up.

Here endeth the discussion of technique. Thanks for comments and appreciation.

I really like this picture. It isn't as static as most macro shots, it just feels real. Myabe it has to do with the dust (or whatever it is). I think the lighting and color treatment are superb and the symmetry is excellent.

Love the title, really like the light. I find this to be a very engaging image for some reason.

Hopefully someday you will explain how this is done, As in obviously it is done manual focus but do you set one and try to get the other in focus, or do you WAG them back and forth until you get lucky

Very cool shot Raish. This is a great macro and I thought it should have scored better than it did. I think you got robbed.

Was this through glass? I was wondering about the shine. Love the sand bits on the bug. That is some great detail you got.

The more I look at this the more I like it. I'm glad this is minimal editing - if you had the chance to pretty it up and take out all spots and artifacts, I don't think I'd like it as much. I originally voted this an 8 but bumping it to a 10.

Nice although the head is somewhat hidden because of the choice of surface colour.

Looks like you caught some good detail here but it's really too dark to tell....would love to see this a bit brighter with a bit more DOF.
