The Creation of......'Am I lost in my sins?'

This particular image has now finished voting and as I expected stirred quite a bit of emotion amongst the viewers. This was an image that I had planned for sometime and felt the timing was right in regards to the challenges available. So here is the low down of it.

In total this image took 34 minutes to photograph and 15 hours of processing. A total of 31 images were used. The PSD files incorporated 133 layers, 84 masks...equaling 2.55GB in size.

I knew I would get people asking me how I did this image...so I decided to make a short video on the creation of this image. It runs for about 6 minutes and is available on the below link. Give it time to get started.

The Creation of......'Am I lost in my sins?'

I came up with the idea of capturing the emotion where one feels trapped within ones own life...not in a physical sense...but an emotional sense. A sense that sometimes leads to a physical effect on the person involved.

And I started to picture a person that was being held back from their life by many hands...each hand representing another sin of that persons life.....almost like each hand reaching out from a portion of that persons life...and yet no hand with any attachment to a body or soul....just attached to a part of the persons past or mind.

And the image started to form...a person covered in hands...with a bland look on their face...earthy tones to represent the neutral side of life...and small indicators of both the good and the bad of life....hence, the rose, spiked dog collar, barefoot, hair pulled back to reveal the face, lace lingerie, feet and hand ornaments, whips and handcuffs. The eyes needed to be bland...but also show an inner pleading for the souls desire to reach their goal.

A goal that may never be reached.

And the image was then formed.

Somehow missed this earlier, great shot. I do not mean to sound like a perv but this would have impacted me more though if it had been a nude under those hands, somehow the white underwear doesn´t seem to fit for my taste but that is it, I would have voted this a big fat 10 had I voted in this challenge.

Great work!

Judi, This is one very POWERFUL image!

I agree with your concept about the many emotions & events of our past too often holding us back from accomplishing all we were created to accomplish. You (on the other hand)have been beautifully ironic as to the meaning of the photo...for you demonstrated skill, creativity, and determination to accomplish a worthy goal, the illustration of the human condition.

I bow deeply before GREATNESS! Great job! :)

Amazingly creative, wonderful artwork. So deeply disturbing. I like the empty facial expression.

And after watching the video about how it was made, I also bow down before your post-processing skills.

"Wow" is the only word I can find at the moment. It's disturbing and intriguing, thought-provoking and horrific all at the same time. Basically, it's one HELL of a piece of art! Congrats, too, on the three-peak histogram. That certainly shows you connected strongly with some while really turning off others.

You are one of the main people that makes me love Expert Editing and get my vote to make it an integral part of the challenges. Your knowledge of Photoshop is phenomenal and you put it to good use. I only wish that I could be half as good as you. Great image! Keep it up---please!

Wow... what a shot!! And thank you for the movie! Although I have absolutely no idea whatsoever of what you were doing...I hope to learn someday. Thankfully you DO know and look what you have been able to create... and "create" is exactly what you have done.

Great job!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judi, this one has taken photography well into the realm of illustration. As far as I'm concered I think it's a brilliant example of a vision very well executed. You deserve lots of kudos for being able to create such a piece and I hope that those that don't care for expert editing in DPC can at least appreciate the skill, time and initial ideas required to make such a vision come to be. Bravo.

wowza. It may be a good thing you didn't ribbon because uploading 31 originals would take nearly as long as your editing! haha.

An excellent example on why I don't believe expert editing belongs on DPC. Very impressive photoshop work - but to me this is just too far from what I consider to be photography.

That is just freaky and honestly I don't know how to vote on it....I guess I'll give you an 8 for composition and lighting + 2 for wow and -1 for ewww...so what is that...hmmm a 9.

By the way, no you are not trapping in your sins, there is hope!

Oh my, into the realms of nightmares. A dark horror. Disturbing but I cannot look away.

Back to view yet again. How many times have I been here? I don't know, I haven't slept since the first time I saw it. Many thoughts screaming in my head. What are the sins? Vanity? Lust? The title messes with my mind. It's wrong somehow. "Trapped" seems to mock the work as does posing the question. Bound maybe, even seduced. Oh yes, it's a seduction, enveloping me. I'm rambling now. Be afraid, I may come back ;)

Holy scary. This is wonderful and I always wonder whether people are like me and the idea developes during the project almost as much as beforehand - no pun intended. This has to be the most artistic piece I've seen in a while. The rich background makes this so complex but it all seems confident and intentional. The obvious symbolism and appropriate emotion on the face tell the story well. I love the hot hellish vibe and i would be wrong to give this anything below an 8. The only thing I might have changed was bringing the subject out a bit more from the background. I gonna guess you get 72 comments on this during voting and 51 of them will be positive. 8
