Challenge: Bubbles II (Basic Editing)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix L5
Location: Mangrove Mountain NSW Australia.
Date: Apr 19, 2007
Aperture: f/4.0
ISO: 168
Shutter: 1/96
Galleries: Snapshot, Children
Date Uploaded: Apr 20, 2007

This shot of my grand-daughter was taken beside an out-door fire where we were toasting marshmellows. I believe the mysterious "bubbles" are quite simply an apparition created by the camera. The only editing carried out was to firstly create a copy then resize this copy. I have retained the untouched original shot.

The photograph was taken with no special effects etc in mind.It was only when I saw the Challenge that I decided to enter this particular shot as I feltit offered a differentperspective to"Bubbles".

Greetings from the Critique Club

My first thought on seeing this image was: "Oh, Pretty!"

I loved the soft blues and the faint outline of your granddaughter's head. It's a unique take on the Challenge.

Technically, it's a bit difficult because of the lack of contrast. Some of our viewers/voters have monitors calibrated differently than yours, and thus they might find this subtle image hard to find. And, that bright white blob on the profile of your granddaughter is distracting.

Still, for your first attempt here at DPC, you entered a charming image that met the Challenge in a unique way and I'm pleased to have had the chance to view it. I'll look forward to seeing more of your photography.

well this is definitely and out of the box thinking kind of picture. I like your choice here instead of going with the obvious (like a traditional bubble). The swirl around your granddaughter creates a beautiful bubble effect as well. Interesting!

without wanting to sound harsh, I cannot tell the bubbles in this image, for all I know they could be blobs of water?
IMO adding a haze effect does not work well for this subject matter

A little too dim and there's basically no detail outside of the model, making too much empty space. Also, the bubble in front of her face detracts from what she can add to the image.

You've used bubbles to make a picture of a person look like a picture of a picture... a picture of a beautiful, mysterious picture. a picture of a picture from my own past, my own mystery. a picture of a picture whose ghostly energy was discovered by your picture of it, an orb of energy appearing right between her eyes, as though her soul were focused there. This sort of ecstatic, dangerous dance can only get a 10.

The big white dot on child's face is very distracting.

Photo is a little confusing.

Neat idea but the haze takes away from the bubbles.
