Runoff in the gutter in front of my house, with the usual auto pollution floating on top. I wanted to title it *Not Prince William Sound* but I deceded it was too esoteric.

Used one curve to bring up the contrast, duplicated the background and burned-in a little glare at the top-right part of the oil, then made a soft-edged mask over the slick and applied another curve to bump up the color a bit more. Cropped a little from the left and right and re-sized; no sharpening added.

Hand-held, shot with spot-meter, -0.5 Ev Exposure compensation (hence the under-exposure), macro mode.

Did you try to rotate it CW a bit, to give a bit of a slant to the composition?

Thanks! I think I was trying to get the left edge straight, but I can see where a slight rotation clockwise would make the implied (but unseen) horizon straighter. I'll have to see if there's enough uncropped area to the left to try that.

110th? An outrage.

The waves in the lower left corner are very interesting, but the bright area to the right draws attention away.

Is this refraction on ice? The colors, textures and shapes make an interesting abstract.

Very intriguing viewpoint and a nice take on the challenge.

I like this for its abstract angle and wonder if the contextual material on the right would be better cropped out which would leave the viewer more disoriented, making even stronger use of the ragged line on the left. This woould lose some shape in the oil though but just obscuring that side with my hand does make for an excellent abstract without giving the game away. [9]

Interesting. It's a little dark for my taste but I like the subject you chose.

Such a good idea and case! The left vertical band is absolutely incredible with rich texture and color. the rest plays with the abstract pattern, but after the challenge, you might see what you could do to isolate and focus on the left portion!

Thoughtful and really good subject matter - an extra credit for that. Iiridescent qualities are always interesting and beautiful, but the oil slick itself is sinister and deadly for wild life and birds. Whenever I see an image like this it triggers other thoughts of peacock feathers or Sammy Davis Jr in a tailored Italian suit.

I love the reflections in the water, I'm not sure about the dark area the runs along the whole left side. I guess I'd either want more of it or none.

Enhancement of the colors would have worked nicely for this picture. A bit flat in color otherwise. Good idea.

Beautiful colors coming from the oil in the water, it helps to show the flow of the water.I think maybe cropping the left side of the shot would help the composition.
I think this is the most original non-setup shot of the challenge.
