I've studied this photograph for a long time now trying to come up with some compliment that is different then what the others have said. Oh well! This is an amazing image. You have an impressive portfolio.

I am not participating in this side challenge but I love black and white photos so I wanted to take a look at some of the pictures. I saw this thumb nail and thought it looked like a shadow against parched earth. What a stunning difference the full size image makes, yet at the same time, it is very close to what my mind originally thought when looking at the thumb nail. I would have to agree with previous comments that this is a true case of irony being captured in a photo. Well seen!

30 favorites so far?!? Congratulations, man, that is a huge achievement. I'll make it 31...

Stunning contrast between the umbrella/downpour and the mural depicting parched land. This must be what irony is. And yet, the shapes in the umbrella even match the shapes in the mural. The tones in this are very pleasing to look at, too.

Fantastic capture, man. Now how are you going to top this?!? I'm sure you'll find a way.

Great subject matter for a black and white shot. Love the background patterns, everything is just sharp enough. Having the guy mostly blacked out is the icing on the cake. Really nice work (no suprise).

An excellent image. Nice concept! Really like the composition, and background is way awesome. The tones and contrast are perfect. I only find those little bright bits of white spots somewhat distracting seeing the rest of the image is fairly dark, and them being so hot.

Wow, what a great subject for b&w! Nice shapes, angles, reflections, it's all there. Good idea to have someone passing through the composition - to give the viewer a point of reference as to what they are looking at.

There is nothing I don't like in this shot: the shilhouette, the texture on the wall, the rain covered sidewalk with bits of trash, the shadows. It's now one of my few treasured favorites.

Wow so much being said here. The patterns, the reflections, the diagonal, the man with an umbrella. The contrast of rain vs. what the mural represents. I love that he is a silhouette. Awesome!

There is much said here both visually and subliminally. Love the silhouette of the man with a hint of detail on the umbrella. Amazing detail in the rain wet sidewalk. Shows the wall in the reflection. Nice contrast. White spots on the sidewalk are a bit distracting. Beautiful job.

Wow!!!!!! What a fantastic photo! This is so artistic and interesting! This one seriously needs to be matted in white and framed with a simple black frame and hung on a wall! Or a museum! It is that awesome!

What an extraordinary find!!! I love how you waited for the man to step into the frame to add a human element to the background. I absolutely love the captured elements in this photo. The ironic juxtaposition of the man holding the umbrella while it rains and the mural showing the cracked & parched earth in the backdrop makes for a powerful visual statement and symbolism. I really like how you cannot see the face of the man because the anonymous nature makes it all the more easier for one to inject themselves into the picture & more readily be open to the message you are trying to convey. The tonal ranges in this photo are absolutely fabulous! It really pops off the page and draws you in.

Now that umbrella should be inverted with the man sipping, gratefully, the gracious drops which descend from heaven ever so lightly.... then get him to sign the model release form ;-)

Lovely shot, the backdrop provides a stark but eyecatching element, which for me is complimented by the fact that the umbrella looks as if it may have seen better days. I really like the reflection of the feet and legs as well

i like the contrast of the umbrella and the drought in the background. and love that this person doesn't really have an identity, we only see him as a the silhouette, kind of symbolic. very nice exposure, i like the tones.

This is awesome! I love the textures and tones and angle on this. I probably would have made the mistake and tried to shoot this so the horizon was level. The blackness of the street and the shapes on the wall make this a real winner.

Holy Cow - this is STRIKING!

I love, love, LOVE the background - and all that water hardly makes it look like Melbourne - SMILE!

I think his anonimity is so delicious, the shape with the case and umbrella is SUBLIME.

Can't wait to see 29 more days!
