Greetings from the critique club!

As previous commenters have indicated, desaturating the pump just makes it look like a pump that is painted grey. You mentioned its a blue pump so perhaps desaturating the background and then bumping up the saturation on the pump itself would be quite dramatic. Perhaps you can show us an outake like this?

That aside, the sharpness is great in this shot. The background is faded nicely and it well separated from the subject.

Good exposure with nice tonal range throughout. Some of the shadows are a little harsh in the pump but they create very interesting lines.

Composition is excellent and I like how the handle helps balance the scene

Overall, this is a really strong shot that unfortunately got slammed by the voters because it likely received a lot of DNMC votes.

Nice and original.

This almost comes across as not de-saturated at all. I would suggest that you flip your saturation / de-saturation to have the background in b/w and your pump in color. JM2C.

It is not immediately apparrent that this is selective color to me.

IMHO, the pump doesn't really look desaturated ... it looks like it's painted grey ...

Nice "switcheroo" on which element gets desaturated -- it works well with your subject.
