Challenge: Tacky Holiday Decorations (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-D60
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: Richmond, VA
Date: Dec 26, 2003
Aperture: F/8.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 2 Seconds
Galleries: Humorous, Rural
Date Uploaded: Dec 29, 2003

One of the tackiest displays of holiday lighting in Richmond, VA, and wonderfully so.

I had to crop this a little tighter than I would have liked due to (you guessed it) lots of other extraneous lights around the subject that detracted much more than they would have added.

Canon 17-40mm lens, F/8.0 at 2 seconds. Rotate, crop, USM (mild), resize, added borders.

Excellent shot! I toured Chicago looking for one like this, but to no avail. "May all your dreams come true"? Well I guess yours did. Now, some of us have a dream about global warming not wrecking the planet for our kids... ;-)

NIce work, Rich! I especially like the line of reindeer on top; that's ultimately where my eyes end up. congratulations on the ribbon!

It is the beginning of the neighbor's driveway. Unfortunately there was no way to really exclude it; it was the best angle available.

Thanks very much to everyone for all of the great comments. This ribbon is certainly encouraging; so much so that I will try submitting photos more frequently than 22 months apart :-)

Perfect exposure...great colors withougt being overblown anywhere within reason....this is an amazing amount of lights of different brightness and color and it is as if I can see every single bulb. Great detail....what puts it over the top for me are the names on the roof and the reindeer and sled atop same. Great work!

The cause for the great blackout of 2003. LOL! Unbelieveable! I bet there was enough light to handhold this shot and get at least 1/100 sec. exposure time. Absolutely amazing!

You did a good job of keeping the individual lights from being overexposed. I know how difficult that is.

My husband and I agree on this - ding, ding, ding; we have a winner!!! This is the tackiest thing we have ever seen! We have a guy near us that we thought was tacky, but this takes the ribbon! Great job shooting this too - very crisp and clear and you can see darned near every single light. I never could get one this sharp. Good Luck!

The snowmen are a little overexposed, but this is a good photo of a difficult subject. Yes, it is tacky but in a good way! 8

YUCK, YUCK, YUCK, YUCK, YUCK, YUCK, YUCK, YUCK, YUCK, YUCK...

Imagine how long it would take them to remove the decorations! Just think of their electricity bill?!?

Your picture isn't yuck though. The angle of the roof in your picture is good, makes it look as if the raindeer are getting ready to fly off.

A little overexposed with the snowmen in the front, however it kind of works making us think that they are really bright and 'tacky' Full marks from me!
