Challenge: Double Take (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC for Canon
Location: our garage
Date: Jun 3, 2007
Date Uploaded: Jun 3, 2007

This was taken after a 9 hour drive from Cicero Ny to Columbus Ohio. We got home around 5:30pm, unpacked and shot this real quick. I had envisioned this while on vacation all week but had to make it home for the light setup and backdrop. I had Aidan standing on a plastic bin while I squatted behind him. Our ring light was almost to the direct left but standing out a foot or two for the shadow. Editing darkened it up a bit using the burn tool though I think I could have come pretty close to this with basic editing.

PP - RAW conversion, various hue/sat and selective color layers, minor cloning to remove some scratches on Aidan, dodging and burning, high pass sharpen, NI, resize, USM and border.

The story behind the desire for this shot began last year at my sisters wedding. My dad (whom I see once or twice a year) came up to me and Aidan and asked me in reference to Aidan "Do you know how long its been since I have seen this face?" I said "Yeah - it's been about 9 months". He then replied "No, it's been about 30 years. This little boy here looks just like my little boy." My dad has a cool way of seeing things and then putting it into words. I took this picture for not only me and Aimee and Aidan but for my dad as well. Thanks dad!

FANTASTIC. You and I share that love of capturing our family, and this is just wonderful. And the story adds even more depth to it.

Well Tim - as amazing as this photo is, and it is, but you already know that - the story behind it makes it so much more than a simple photo.

I think it's wonderful, and will make a wonderful keepsake for your father.

Great work, as usual.

The light that goes through their respective eye is exactly the same color. This is a very striking image.

Good double portrait. The eyes are a little too overprocessed, for my personal taste, I think it would have worked also with more natural colours.

Great shot. Your only pulling low score on this??? What a shame...some people have no imagination. I assume people don't understand the difference between similar and exactly alike. Bummer.
