Created Photoshop file with each letter on a separate layer, then flipped each letter vertically so that they could be photographed in a mirror.

Sequentially hand-activated the letters during a long exposure to get varying shades of gray, then modified by Tone Curves. Letter 3-D effect created by double-reflection from back-silvered mirror. Technical note: the phosphors which form the light are activated by a MOVING beam of electrons on this CRT monitor.

-Tripod, timer, macro mode, manual focus

I agree, but this is a learning site, and I was experimenting with something new. Not all experiments have to be "successful" in order to learn valuable information.

Isaac Asimov makes this point in an essay called "The Light That Failed" about the Michelson-Morely Experiment -- an experimental failure of such spectacular proportions that it won the experimenters a Nobel Prize.

Sorry, I meant to post the links for the original and a shot of the setup:

nothing really impressive here photographically. Could have just as easily been a screen shot off a computer or something. Not really sure where the painting with light was used to make this creative or interesting. I think in order to appreciate this image, one would probably have to have seen the set up and execution. It's just not capturing my interest.

I don't like this as much because it doesn't look like a picture, I don't get the felling that this photograph was "painted wiht light".
Sorry
