My first impression is that the image is nice, but it doesn't have that something extra. The title is appropriate though and helps me. I guess what really bothers me about the image is the man is focused on the dog, but the dog is looking elsewhere and doesn't really care. I really want the dog to look at the man! Good luck controlling a dog though.

Great sharpness and depth of field. You really nailed that on this one, which isn't always easy. The color is good, but could be a little more saturated. Composition is excellent, I can't really see any better crop for it.

The watch draws my attention, not in a bad way, but it draws me a little more than either the dog or the man's face.

Not really sure what to suggest to help the image, a lot of getting good candids is just getting lucky and having them do something interesting in front of you. I give it a 6, mostly for the technical quality of the image.

This comment courtesy the Viral Comment Experiment (VCE). The VCE is an experiment to see if a large number of quality comments can be generated in a fashion similar to chain letters. The first time you receive a VCE comment, randomly choose five (5) images from this challenge (or another challenge) and leave quality, useful comments/critiques like this one. Make sure to mention good things as well as bad things. Then, see how many you receive in return over the next few weeks. Make sure you copy this VCE notice at the end of each comment. [Obligatory chain letter threat] If you do not make five quality comments within 24 hours, your hard drive will crash and your camera's shutter will fail at an inopportune moment.

This is an excellent portrait of both subjects. So clean and the details of the mans hair and the dogs hair, I can even read the watch on his arm. Beautiful background to go with. Nice work!

I have a soft spot for Westies. Lovely portrait of a man and his dog. The tight (and sharp) focus does a lot for capturing both of their expressions.

OK well I love westies and the one in the pciture is a real cutie.. Overall this is a lovely image of a pet and its owner, but feels very staged to me (the body language even suggests its possibly a self portrait) If I am wrong then I heartily apologise and kudos to you for this image, but lovely as it is is does not feel like a candid

You've captured a really good moment between these two. I like the focus here too.

Beautiful shot, I just wish you'd captured all of his left hand. Ugly watch, shame about that! Otherwise, it's a nice, crisp capture of a tender moment. The light from the back is good. It could have done with a tighter crop at the top of the frame. However, this man and his dog aren't exceptional enough to make this a really striking photo.
